Iran’s involvement in this war cannot be ignored much as the Biden administration would like to pretend it played no part. The U.S.’s policy of appeasement also cannot be ignored beginning with the early days of the Obama administration through the current term of the Biden administration leading to the conclusion that the U.S. too bears some responsibility for the atrocities committed against Israel’s citizens. A widely sought-after lecturer\, Glick has briefed policymakers from Washington to Canberra\, military commanders in Israel and the U.S. and general audiences worldwide. She has received multiple awards for her journalism. As a captain in the IDF from 1994-1996\, Glick was a core member of Israel’s negotiating team with the PLO and served as assistant foreign policy advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from 1997-1998. She will be discussing the etiology of the Muslim Brotherhood and their adoption of Islamic- Nazi ideology; the significance of Hamas’ choice of October 7th to initiate its barbaric campaign and the Sunni-Shia project of “Greater Palestine.” Finally: Ms. Farahat will address how the Jewish people and their allies across the world should respond. \nAbout the Speaker: Cynthia Farahat is an Egyptian-American author\, columnist\, political analyst\, and counterterrorism expert. She co-founded the Liberal Egyptian Party in Egypt\, which advocated for peace with Israel\, capitalism\, and the separation of mosque and state. She studied Islamic jurisprudence for more than twenty years and co-authored Desecration of A Heavenly Religion\, officially banned by Al-Azhar University in Cairo in 2008 for its criticism of Egypt’s blasphemy law. \nShe landed on an al-Qaeda-affiliated group’s hit list and was officially banned from entering Lebanon for her work fostering regional peace. For almost a decade\, she received daily death threats from Islamists. After her belated brother was kidnapped and tortured\, her friend was murdered\, and Islamists tried to assassinate her in October 2011\, Farahat immigrated to the United States. \nFarahat has testified before the U.S. House of Representatives\, briefed more than two hundred congressional offices\, and advised intelligence and law enforcement agencies. She received the Speaker of Truth Award from the Endowment for Middle East Truth and the Profile in Courage Award from ACT for America. Her writing has been published in many national and international outlets\, and her work has been translated into more than fifteen languages.

SUMMARY:The Hamas War: A Historical Perspective of Potential Implications and Lessons Learned
DESCRIPTION:[TRANSCRIPT WILL BE AVAILABLE HERE] \n\nIn his recent essay published in Mosaic Magazine\, The Hidden Calculation Behind the Yom Kippur War\, historian and foreign policy expert Michael Doran provides an in-depth analysis of mistakes made not just by the Israeli government but also by U.S. policy that led to Golda Meir’s fateful decision to not conduct a pre-emptive attack that may have ultimately saved Israeli lives. Doran observes that upon the surprise attack by Egyptian and Syrian forces\, “It suddenly became clear that Israel’s assumptions about its own strength\, the character of its enemies\, and the fundamental shape of the modern battlefield were erroneous.” Fast forward to the Hamas war that shocked Israel and the world on October 7th\, and once again it appears that Israel’s assumptions were once again inaccurate. Join us for an insightful conversation with Michael Doran on perhaps parallel mistakes in the lead-up to Hamas’ attack to those that occurred prior to the Yom Kippur war\, U.S. policy that both contributed to those mistakes and that may impair Israel’s full ability to fight this war to the win\, and lessons that may be learned in order to prevent future war. \nAbout the Speaker:  Michael Doran is a senior fellow and director of the Center for Peace and Security in the Middle East at Hudson Institute. He specializes in Middle East security issues and co-hosts the Counterbalance podcast. \nIn the administration of President George W. Bush\, Doran served in the White House as a senior director in the National Security Council\, where he was responsible for helping to devise and coordinate United States strategies on a variety of Middle East issues\, including Arab-Israeli relations and US efforts to contain Iran and Syria. He also served in the Bush administration as a senior advisor in the State Department and a deputy assistant secretary of defense in the Pentagon. \nBorn in Kokomo\, Indiana\, Doran went to elementary school in Carmel\, outside of Indianapolis\, before his family moved to Fullerton\, California\, where he graduated from Sunny Hills High School. He received a BA from Stanford University and an MA and PhD in Near Eastern studies from Princeton University. \nBefore coming to Hudson\, Doran was a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. He has also held teaching positions at New York University\, Princeton University\, and the University of Central Florida. His latest book\, Ike’s Gamble\, was published by Free Press in 2016. He appears frequently on television\, and has published extensively in Foreign Affairs\, the American Interest\, Commentary\, Mosaic\, the Wall Street Journal\,  the Washington Post\, and the New York Times.

In his remarks\, he blamed the United States “for being totally responsible for this war”\, and congratulated Hamas for their October 7th massacre of Israeli civilians and soldiers. He did not rule out wider escalation on Israel’s northern front. Just this past week\, however\, Iran’s Supreme Leader\, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei met with Hamas leader\, Ismail Haniya\, and rebuked him for not giving Iran a warning about the October 7th attacks. Yet\, Iranian-backed Hezbollah and other Iranian proxies have engaged in the heaviest clashes with Israel in almost 20 years\, with 7 IDF soldiers killed. Most villages in the northern border communities have been evacuated. Meanwhile\, US bases have been attacked approximately 50 times by Iranian-backed terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq. \nAbout the Speaker: Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zehavi is the CEO and founder of Alma – a nonprofit and an independent research and education center specialized in Israel’s security challenges on its northern border.
