She majored in law and\, in 2011\, at the age of 18\, was arrested by the Assad regime for her key role in the early days of the Syrian protests. In 2012\, a U.S. delegation in Geneva met with Oueis and facilitated her relocation to the United States. She now analyzes U.S. policies in the Middle East for major Arabic networks and has reported extensively on the Jews of the Middle East for various Arabic publications.

SUMMARY:Re-conquering Gaza--What is at Stake\, Here?
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nThe transcript will be available here \nAs I write these words\, the Israeli Cabinet has just convened and has decided to reoccupy Gaza. This is after 22 months of heartbreaking war\, where the double objectives have been the dismantling of Hamas and the rescuing of the hostages. \nWhat has happened to create a change of military strategy for Israel? \nIsrael has eliminated much of the Hamas leadership\, including Yahya Sinwar on October  16\, 2024\, in Rafah\, Gaza\, Mohammad Deif on July 13\, 2024\, in al-Mawasi\, Gaza and Ismael Haniyeh on July 24\, 2024\, in Tehran\, Iran. Israel estimates that they have eliminated 14\,000 to 20\,000 members of Hamas since the start of the war. Yet\, Hamas has been able to regenerate thousands of young recruits. \nIsrael is not safe as long as Hamas exists. Hamas has displayed itself as a primitive terrorist group that hides behind its own civilians as it murders our own. \nMany of the families of the hostages are deeply concerned\, fearing that this might well risk the lives of their loved ones.  We know\, however\, that the lives of the hostages have been the “life insurance policy” of the Hamas terrorist group. \nYet\, we also know that members of Hamas have been slowly starving to death Israeli hostages captured on October 7\, 2023\, such as 24-year-old Evyatar David and 22 -year-old Ram Bravslavski. \nWe will also assess the prospects for what awaits after this conflict winds down\, including the establishment of a Palestinian state following the conclusion of this conflict\, as envisioned by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer\, French President Emmanuel Macron\, and Irish President Michael D.  Higgins\, among others\,  and how it will affect the geopolitics of the region. \nHere to discuss this escalation of the war is David Wurmser. \nAbout Our Speaker: Dr. David Wurmser is a Senior Analyst for Middle East Affairs at the Center for Security Policy\, as well as a Fellow at the Misgav Institute for National Security and Zionist Strategy. He also is the executive and founding member of the Delphi Global Analysis Group\, LLC – a firm specializing in geopolitical risk analysis and mitigation for infrastructure\, high-tech\, defense and financial firms from the United States\, Japan and India navigating in Israel – – since its founding in 2007. From December 2018 until September 2019\, Dr. Wurmser also served as senior advisor to the U.S. National Security Advisor\, Ambassador John Bolton. \nPrior to this\, Dr. Wurmser was the senior advisor from 2003-2007 to the U.S. Vice President Cheney on Middle East\, proliferation and strategic affairs. Before becoming the senior advisor for the Vice President in 2003\, Dr. Wurmser was the senior advisor to Under Secretary of State John Bolton at the State Department. \nImmediately following the 9/11 attacks\, Dr. Wurmser consulted until January 2002 for the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the U.S. Department of Defense on a war‐related classified project on understanding the nature and strategic significance of terrorist group networks and their interactions with states. \nBefore entering government\, Dr. Wurmser founded the Middle East studies program at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in 1996. While at AEI Dr. Wurmser\, published Tyranny’s Ally: America’s Failure to Defeat Saddam Hussein. \nDr. Wurmser’s military service includes 11 years of intelligence experience in the U.S. Navy Reserves\, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander. LCDR Wurmser was mobilized during the Operational Vigilant Warrior following Iraq’s surge toward Kuwait in 1994 to serve on the Iraq Intelligence Task for the DIA. He is the recipient of the prestigious Defense Meritorious Service Medal. \nDr. Wurmser holds a B.A. (political science)\, M.A. (international affairs and international economics) and a Ph.D. (on U.S. foreign policy and Middle East affairs) from the Johns Hopkins University. In addition to his book\, he has published extensively in in major periodicals including: The Wall Street Journal\, Financial Times and Commentary.   \n

DESCRIPTION:The transcript will be available here\n\n\nOn Monday\, the United Nations Security Council started to debate a French Resolution extending the mandate of UNIFIL for approximately one more year. The UN Security Council is supposed to vote on this on August 25th\, approximately 5 days from now. UNIFIL was established in 1978 to patrol Lebanon’s southern border with Israel. How much has UNIFIL accomplished? Has it turned a blind eye as Hezbollah’s activities\, as well as its arsenal\, along Israel’s northern border has grown? \nAlso\, looking towards Syria\, the United Nations Human Rights Council is investigating the government of Ahmed al-Sharaa as being guilty of war crimes\, particularly against the Druze and the Alawite neighborhoods. What sort of policy can Israel embark upon with Syria to be able to give its citizens defensible borders? \n\nAs assurances have been made that Hezbollah will be disbanded in Lebanon\, and the Syrian government of Ahmed al-Sharaa has been charged with war crimes\, we are inviting Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zehavi of the Alma Center in Israel to analyze and discuss how Israel can handle all of the myriad demands on its armed forces and how to best protect their civilian population.\nAbout Our Speaker: \nLieutenant Colonel (Res.) Sarit Zehavi is the founder and president of Alma\, a nonprofit and an independent research and education center specializing in Israel’s security challenges on its northern border. Sarit has briefed hundreds of groups and forums\, ranging from US Senators\, Congressmen/women\, and politicians to senior journalists and visiting VIP groups in Israel and overseas. Sarit scripts numerous position papers and updates focusing on Lebanon\, Syria\, and Israel’s national security challenges. She served for 15 years in the Israeli Defense Forces\, specializing in military intelligence\, holds an M.A. in Middle East Studies from Ben-Gurion University\, and is also a member of Forum Devora\, promoting the equal representation of women in key decision-making positions in the fields of national security and foreign policy. Her unique achievements led her to be selected by the Jerusalem Post as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Jews of 2021. \nSarit lives in the Western Galilee.

Journalists  and photographers living and working throughout Gaza have learned to fear Hamas’ repressive and fatal consequences for telling the truth. When asked if one can trust a journalist to convey the truth\, one responded\, “Never. They will report what Hamas wants them to write; photograph the pictures Hamas seeks.” A journalist from the New York Times refused to publish photographs indicating evidence of her source receiving Hamas pay slips or being a member listed on Hamas rosters. A New York Times columnist this week accused Israel of “assassinating” Al Jazeera newsman Anas al-Sharif because “Israel is making sure there is no one to document the horror of its war.”  Journalists throughout the international community have come to rely on the inflated figures of the Gazan controlled Ministry of Health. \nCome learn what is truly happening behind the scenes in Gaza\, and how Hamas terrorists and thugs are in control of the information the media is using\, which has resulted in an erosion of international policy in support of Israel. \nAbout our Speaker: \nLenny Ben-David is a Research and Senior Diplomacy Fellow at the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs. He had worked for AIPC for 25 years\, in both Washington and Jerusalem. In 1997\, he left to open an independent consulting firm\, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tapped him to serve as Deputy Chief of Staff in Israel’s Washington Embassy. He is the author of the book American Interests in the Holy Land Revealed in Early Photographs\, and he is completing his next book\, Secrets of World War I in the Holy Land Revealed in Early Photographs
