SUMMARY:The IRGC's Expanding Presence in Latin America
DESCRIPTION:Since the Iranian regime toppled the Shah in 1979\, their goal has been to export the Islamic revolution. The regime views Latin America as an easy target through which to spread anti-American propaganda and flex Iranian influence. In addition to a missionary network that includes media outlets\, educational institutions and mosques\, Iran has also worked to strengthen its ties with Venezuela\, possibly even providing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro with long-range missiles capable of reaching the US. \nThere is now an “air bridge” between Iran and Venezuela\, an inconspicuous way to transport senior regime members\, intelligence officials and weapons between the two countries under the guise of a passenger or cargo route. In May\, a Boeing 747 cargo plane landed in Ciudad del Este\, Paraguay\, with no cargo but only the 18-member crew–consisting of seven Iranians and 11 Venezuelans–including a board member of the U.S.-sanctioned Iranian airline Fars Air Qeshm\, and a senior member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Many of these flights coincide with a spike in Iranian activity in Latin America\, including in similar-minded countries like Cuba and Nicaragua. \nWhat is the IRGC – which is supposed to be under international sanctions – doing on our doorstep in Latin America? Where is the Biden Administration in tackling this looming threat? Here to discuss this will be Emanuele Ottolenghi.\n\nAbout our Speaker: Dr. Emanuele Ottolenghi is a senior fellow at FDD and an expert at FDD’s Center on Economic and Financial Power (CEFP) focused on Hezbollah’s Latin America illicit threat networks and Iran’s history of sanctions evasion. His research has examined Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps\, including its links to the country’s energy sector and procurement networks. His areas of expertise also include the EU’s Middle East policymaking\, transatlantic relations\, the Arab-Israeli conflict\, and Israel’s domestic politics. Prior to joining FDD\, Emanuele headed the Transatlantic Institute in Brussels and taught Israel Studies at St. Antony’s College\, Oxford University. \nHe is author of The Pasdaran: Inside Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps\, Iran: The Looming Crisis\, and Under a Mushroom Cloud: Europe\, Iran and the Bomb. Emanuele blogs at The Hill. His columns have also appeared in leading outlets including The Wall Street Journal\, The New York Times\, and London’s The Sunday Times. He obtained his PhD in political theory at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem\, preceded by undergraduate studies in political science at the University of Bologna.

SUMMARY:Normalization with Saudi Arabia and its Effects on Education
DESCRIPTION:  \nEMET has long argued that the best litmus test for whether or not a nation is ready for peace is to examine how they educate the next generation. Education can be used as a tool for liberalization\, for tolerance\, for openness to “the other\, and for planting the seeds of democracy and human rights. Or it can be used to indoctrinate children towards hatred of “the other” and towards extremism and violence. \nIMPACT-se has just released its 2022 annual update on Saudi textbooks\, depicting an overall trend of improvement following major reforms since 2020. Whereas only a decade ago\, focus was put on encouraging students to prepare for jihad and martyrdom\, the majority of references to violent jihad justifying and praising violence and murder on behalf of the Prophet Muhammad have now been removed from the textbooks. While some problematic content\, such as negative depictions of Jews\, Zionism and Christians\, remains or has even been made worse\, others\, particularly instances of the kind of antisemitism based on modern European tropes\, have largely been removed. \nIMPACT-se has also released an extensive review of the Palestinian curriculum used in our UNRWA schools. This report analyzed textbooks and new “study cards” produced by the Palestinian Authority (PA) for the 2021–22 school year\, which are used in the curricula of the West Bank\, Gaza\, East Jerusalem\, and UNRWA schools\, and includes selected examples from several hundred pages of educational content. Contrary to the assurances made by the PA to its international partners that improvements would be made rapidly to improve the 2020–21 curriculum\, IMPACT-se found that there were no revisions to the PA curriculum for the current 2021–22 school year. In addition to the lack of PA-assured textbook revisions\, research on the supplemental online learning materials called study cards found that the PA Ministry of Education published the same or worse content in violation of international standards of peace\, tolerance and non-violence in education. \nAbout the speaker: Marcus Sheff was a political reporter at The Nation\, an editor at The Jerusalem Post\, and a foreign correspondent before heading The Word Shop\, a strategic communications firm\, for a decade. He worked for Dow Jones International and Advanstar Inc. and was CEO at Intermedia\, an international business development firm\, before becoming Executive Director at The Israel Project. He has for two decades been involved in in global healthcare\, briefed world leaders\, spoken at the United Nations and parliaments\, and appears regularly on media. He studied political science and international relations at Leeds University where he was an elected leader of the student union\, and international relations at Tel Aviv University.

SUMMARY:President Biden's Middle East Trip
DESCRIPTION:As President Biden is about to make his maiden presidential voyage to the region\, what can we realistically expect him to walk away with? What are the expectations in Israel regarding this trip? What are the ramifications of the President’s visit on the status of the Palestinians? What is Israel’s perspective on the sort of peace they have with Egypt and Jordan\, as opposed to the sort of peace with members of the Abraham Accords – the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain – as well as with Morocco and Sudan? Does Israel believe it is possible to have normal relations with Saudi Arabia? \nNow that negotiations with Iran have apparently been exhausted through the last 16 months\, including eight rounds of negotiations in Vienna and one in Doha\, will the president be able to make greater security commitments to the state of Israel and to the Gulf states? Do they feel a war with Iran is inevitable? Will this be President Biden’s moment of truth? \nDr. Jonathan Schanzer recently returned from an extensive trip to Israel\, where he kept his eyes and ears close to the ground. Come hear what one of America’s leading Middle East experts has to tell us regarding these\, as well as other burning issues\, as the president embarks on his first trip to the region. \nAbout the speaker: Dr. Jonathan Schanzer is senior vice president for research at FDD\, where he oversees the work of the organization’s experts and scholars. He is also on the leadership team of FDD’s Center on Economic and Financial Power\, a project on the use of financial and economic power as a tool of statecraft. \nJonathan previously worked as a terrorism finance analyst at the U.S. Department of the Treasury\, where he played an integral role in the designation of numerous terrorist financiers. He has held previous think tank research positions at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and the Middle East Forum. \nJonathan has written hundreds of articles on the Middle East\, along with more than a dozen monographs and chapters for edited volumes. His new book\, Gaza Conflict 2021: Hamas\, Israel and Eleven Days of War (FDD Press 2021)\, challenges and corrects the some of the wildly inaccurate news reported during the conflict. It is the first book published on the war. His three other books have made unique contributions to the field. State of Failure: Yasser Arafat\, Mahmoud Abbas\, and the Unmaking of the Palestinian State (Palgrave Macmillan 2013) argues the main roadblock to Palestinian statehood is the Palestinian Authority’s political dysfunction and mismanagement. Hamas vs. Fatah: The Struggle for Palestine (Palgrave Macmillan 2008) is still the only book on the market that analyzes the ongoing Palestinian civil war. Al-Qaeda’s Armies: Middle East Affiliate Groups and the Next Generation of Terror (Washington Institute for Near East Policy 2004) was the first to explore the al-Qaeda franchises of the Middle East. \nJonathan testifies often before Congress and publishes widely in the American and international media. He has appeared on American television channels such as Fox News and CNN\, and Arabic language television channels such as Al-Arabiya and Al-Jazeera.

SUMMARY:The View From Abu Dhabi
DESCRIPTION:Our own Hussein Aboubakr Mansour just returned from an extensive trip to Abu Dhabi\, where he had several meetings with high-level Emirati\, Israeli and Saudi diplomats. He will address his takeaways about their view of the Biden administration’s performance thus far\, their relationships with the United States and other world leaders who would like to project power in the region and what the Arab Gulf countries are saying about their relationship with Israel. \nAbout the speaker: Hussein Aboubakr Mansour is the Director of EMET’s Program for Emerging Democratic Voices from the Middle East. Hussein was born in Cairo\, Egypt into a family who raised another son to be an Imam inspiring young people to become Jihadists. \nHis critical intellect led him to find out more about Israel and Jews and to forge friendships with Israelis. As a result\, he was arrested and tortured by the government of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak under suspicion of being an agent of the government of Israel. \nHussein received political asylum in the United States under President Barack Obama in 2012 and worked as an instructor for language and culture at the Defense Language Institute at Monterey\, California. He then went on to work as an educator and public speaker for StandWithUs\, educating students about cultural and geopolitical issues in the Middle East and helping them counter antisemitism. \nHussein wrote an autobiography\, Minority of One: The Unchaining of the Arab Mind\, and his articles have appeared in Commentary\, Newsweek\, the Jewish Journal\, JNS.org\, Times of Israel and Mosaic Magazine. Hussein has worked for EMET since September 2020\, and has been integral in crafting the ideas behind the Israel Normalization Act of 2021\, based on his own personal experiences.

SUMMARY:The Tectonic Shift on Israel's Northern Border
DESCRIPTION:This webinar was sponsored by Sarah and Buddy Stern to commemorate the Yahrzeit of Sarah’s sister\, Mynda Barenholtz \nIf you would like more information on sponsoring a future webinar\, please contact info@emetonline.org. \nEver since Syria’s civil war began in 2011\, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime has been increasingly propped up by the Islamic Republic of Iran\, which remains firmly within the Russian constellation. Although many had thought that Russia would be exiting Syria to consolidate its troop buildup in Ukraine\, Russia has actually been escalating its presence in Syria. \nDespite recent elections\, Hezbollah still controls the Lebanese infrastructure\, and parts of Syria have now become sensitive touchstones between Russian\, Iranian and US forces\, while Hezbollah has threatened to blow up the Israeli Karish maritime gas rigs. \nIsrael has been conducting what is known as “The War Between the Wars” to reduce the Iranian presence in both Syria and Lebanon and has coordinated with the United States according to a recent Wall Street Journal report. \nAnd of course\, the Iranian proxy\, Hezbollah\, now has approximately 150\,000 missiles on Israel’s northern border\, and Iran has likely recently become a nuclear-threshold state. \nAre these all of these rivalling powers on Israel’s northern border too close for comfort? How can Israel prevent an unintended explosion between these rivaling powers on her northern border? \nHere to answer these questions and more is Lieutenant- Colonel (res.) Sarit Zehavi of the IDF and the Director of the Alma Research and Education Center. \nAbout the speaker: Lt. Col. (Res.) Sarit Zehavi is the CEO and founder of Alma – a nonprofit and an independent research and education center specialized in Israel’s security challenges on its northern border. Sarit has briefed hundreds of groups and forums\, ranging from US Congress members to journalists and visiting VIP groups in Israel and overseas. SUMMARY:Status Update: Biden and the Iran Nuclear Deal
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis week\, International Atomic Energy Administration (IAEA) confirmed that Iran removed 27 cameras from its nuclear facilities. The 27 cameras were installed as part of the 2015 JCPOA\, referred to as the nuclear deal. As IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated\, “The less my inspectors and my analysists see what is happening in Iran\, the less ability we have to know how much material they are enriching\, how many centrifuges they are putting together…. No-one can go into an agreement without knowing what your base line is… Normally\, history tells us and recent history tells us\, it is never a good thing when you tell international inspectors to go home.” \nHe also warned that if Iran does not reinstall those cameras within the next few weeks\, it will be impossible to return to the deal. \nThis comes as news breaks that Iran has been constructing yet another nuclear facility close to the Natanz nuclear facility\, so deep within the mountains that it will evade the massive power of bunker busting bombs. \nAccording to David Albright and Sarah Burkhard from the Institute for Science and International Security\, as well as Andrea Stricker from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies\, breakout time for a nuclear bomb\, has been reduced to zero. Within 1.5 months\, they can have three nuclear bombs. \nIt is obvious\, what sort of game Iran has been playing with the international community. \nThis week\, the Biden administration decided to impose sanctions on Chinese and Emirati companies\, as well as a network of Iranian petrochemical producers\, accusing them of helping to “evade sanctions” by supporting the sale of Iran’s petrochemical products abroad. \nDoes this actually signal that the United States administration\, under President Biden\, has given up on employing merely the diplomatic tract with Iran? Is the imposition of sanctions sufficient? Are they actually considering a “Plan B”?  Or will they just allow the nuclear talks to whither on the vine\, without acknowledging that we have exhausted the diplomatic route? Will they still try to pull a deal with Iran out of their back pockets\, as evidence of a “foreign policy victory” before the midterm elections in November? \nHere to answer these questions and more is Behnam Ben Taleblu. \nAbout the speaker: Behnam Ben Taleblu is a senior fellow at FDD where he focuses on Iranian security and political issues. Behnam previously served as a research fellow and senior Iran analyst at FDD. Prior to his time at FDD\, Behnam worked on non-proliferation issues at an arms control think-tank in Washington. Leveraging his subject-matter expertise and native Farsi skills\, Behnam has closely tracked a wide range of Iran-related topics including: nuclear non-proliferation\, ballistic missiles\, sanctions\, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps\, the foreign and security policy of the Islamic Republic\, and internal Iranian politics. Frequently called upon to brief journalists\, congressional staff\, and other Washington-audiences\, Behnam has also testified before the U.S. Congress and Canadian Parliament. \nHis analysis has been quoted in The Washington Post\, The Wall Street Journal\, Reuters\, Fox News\, The Associated Press\, and Agence France-Presse\, among others. Additionally\, he has contributed to or co-authored articles for Foreign Affairs\, Foreign Policy\, Fox News\, The Hill\, War on the Rocks\, The National Interest\, and U.S. News & World Report. Behnam has appeared on a variety of broadcast programs\, including BBC News\, Fox News\, CBS Interactive\, C-SPAN\, and Defense News. Behnam earned his MA in International Relations from The University of Chicago\, and his BA in International Affairs and Middle East Studies from The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs.

SUMMARY:The Moral and Strategic Failure of Ignoring the Protests in Iran
DESCRIPTION:In at least 40 cities and towns throughout much of Iran\, thousands of people have taken to the streets to protest a government they deeply despise and distrust. Yet\, there is hardly any mention in the media about it\, and even less from the Biden administration. \nThis latest round of protests began shortly after May 3rd\, when the government announced its intention to remove its subsidy of flour that had been in place for over 200 years.  The Iranian government had been relying on a Ukrainian supply of wheat\, which had threatened the supply chain and global prices\, but because of a pervasive atmosphere of total corruption and mismanagement\, Iranians took to the streets to demonstrate. On top of that\, a building collapsed last week\, killing dozens of people and trapping more than 80 under the rubble. \nWhat began as a purely economic protest has morphed into a great protest against the Iranian regime\, with shouts of “We do not hate America. We hate the regime. Down with the regime. Death to Khameini.” These people have demonstrated phenomenal courage. The Basij\, as well various IRGC militias have randomly shot and killed many of the demonstrators. Others have been rounded up\, arrested and tortured\, and carted off to the notorious Evin prison\, sometimes never to be seen from or heard from again. Yet\, the valiant demonstrators continue. \nWhere is the Western media about this? Why no word from the White House. \nWe are profoundly honored to have with us Navid Mohebbi\, a policy fellow from the National Union for Democracy in Iran (NUFDI). \nAbout the speaker: Navid is a former Iranian political prisoner and long-time political activist. In 2010\, Mohebbi was arrested by the Islamic Republic in Iran and recognized by the Committee to Protect Journalists as the youngest jailed journalist in the country. \nNavid was born and raised in Iran. Before coming to the US in 2013\, he lived in Turkey for two years. He holds a BA in international relations and Middle Eastern studies from George Washington University and previously worked as a Persian media analyst for the State Department. He also recently completed a DOD-funded fellowship program in which he researched the impact of climate change on political stability in Iran.

SUMMARY:The California Ethnic Studies Curriculum: How it Harms Israel & the Jewish People
DESCRIPTION:Lori Lowenthal Marcus is a lawyer in private practice. She is also the Legal Director of The Deborah Project\, a public interest law firm that represents people who are discriminated against in educational settings because they are Jewish and/or pro-Israel. \nIn the case filed by The Deborah Project on May 12\, 2020 in federal court in Los Angeles\, Concerned Jewish Parents and Teachers of Los Angeles\, et al. v. Liberated Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum Consortium\, et al.\, the firm seeks to stop a Consortium of ideologically-driven educators and its allies who are proselytizing and training LA school district teachers to use teaching materials that are virulently hostile to the Jewish state. The materials include descriptions\, as if fact\, of Israel as an illegitimate state\, one founded on ethnic cleansing\, committed to genocide\, and maintained as an apartheid state.  All Israelis are smeared as “white colonial” oppressors who steal Palestinians land and homes. These materials are being directed at public school children from pre-kindergarten to high school seniors. \nThis is just one of many cases currently being handled by The Deborah Project; the law firm is fighting antisemitism in many different manifestations in many different kinds of academic settings. \nLori began her legal career in the late 1980’s as a litigator in a large national law firm. Her practice consisted primarily of representing media clients in First Amendment cases.  She graduated from Harvard Law School\, has two masters’ from Bryn Mawr College\, and received her B.A. from Brandeis University. \nWhile raising her four children\, Lori founded an international Zionist organization\, Z STREET.  When the IRS pushed aside Z STREET’s application for tax-exempt status\, she successfully sued the IRS for viewpoint discrimination. During and following the seven years of the Z STREET litigation\, Lori spent nearly a dozen years as a journalist covering Israel\, the Middle East\, and the Jewish diaspora\, particularly the rising tide of antisemitism on U.S. college campuses. \nRead her latest piece in the Wall Street Journal: “California Parents Say No to Anti-Semitic Ethnic Studies“

SUMMARY:An Expert Perspective from Israel on Global Affairs
DESCRIPTION:Since President Biden took office in January 2021\, the world has seen dramatic shifts in international affairs and alliances.  From the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan to the Russian invasion of Ukraine\, our allies and foes alike are reassessing geopolitical security strategies that have a far greater impact than anyone could have imagined just 18 months ago.  As the Biden administration continues its desperate attempt to re-enter the dangerous Iranian nuclear deal while also re-engaging with Palestinian terrorists who incite internal chaos and threaten violence in Israel\, our most important ally on the frontlines of these international conflicts finds itself\, once again\, on its own to navigate very treacherous waters.  What role do U.S. political divides play in Israel’s quest for survival?  How do Israelis and the Bennet/Lapid governing coalition view and handle the new state of affairs in the U.S. since the Biden/Harris administration entered office?  What new alliances might Israel develop in order to survive if U.S. policymakers fail to recognize Israel’s strategic importance to U.S. national security?  These and other questions will be answered by the always brilliant and prolific Caroline Glick. \nCaroline Glick is an American-born Israeli columnist\, journalist\, and author. She has written for Israel Hayom\, The Jerusalem Post\, and Maariv. She currently writes for the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS). She is the author of The Israeli Solution: A One-State Plan for Peace in the Middle East\, (Crown 2014) and Shackled Warrior: Israel and the Global Jihad (Gefen 2008). The Israeli Solution was endorsed by leading US policymakers including Vice President Mike Pence\, Senator Ted Cruz\, and National Security Advisor John Bolton. Shackled Warrior was endorsed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former CIA director James Woolsey. \nGlick is the adjunct senior fellow for Middle Eastern Affairs at the Center for Security Policy in Washington\, DC\, and directs the Israeli Security Project at the David Horowitz Freedom Center. She travels frequently throughout the world to brief policymakers on issues related to Israel’s strategic environment and other related topics. She lectures widely on strategic and political issues affecting global security\, Israel and the Jewish people\, US-Israel relations\, Israel-Diaspora affairs\, and Israel’s changing strategic landscape. \nMs. Glick’s writings have also been published in leading newspapers and journals including The Wall Street Journal\, The New York Times\, National Review\, the Journal of International Security Affairs\, and Commentary. Glick blogs on her website www.carolineglick.com and on her Facebook author page. Most recently\, Glick’s “Mideast News Hour\,” a weekly podcast and video show\,  has moved to the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS).  The show\, which will now be part of the JNS TV lineup\, features Glick’s commentary on the top headlines of the day\, and interviews with top guests from across the spectrum. \nModerated by Lauri Regan.

SUMMARY:Assessing the Strength of the Abraham Accords Today
DESCRIPTION:As word continues to leak out about greater concessions made to the Islamic Republic of Iran behind closed doors in Vienna\, many of our newly-forged relationships with countries such as the United Arab Emirates\, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia might be in jeopardy. In December\, Sheik Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan traveled to Tehran on a rare visit. In January\, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullallatif bin Rashid Al Zayan traveled to China to meet with Foreign Minister Wang Yi. And Saudi Arabia has invited Chinese leader Xi Jinping to visit the Kingdom as early as this coming May and might actually accept the Chinese currency\, the yuan\, in lieu of U.S. dollars for its sale of oil to China\, which will have a mighty impact on the U.S. economy. \nAnd of course\, as these talks have been ongoing\, the Iranian-backed Houthis have attacked oil fields in Jiddah\, as well the Saudi capital Riyadh. On January 17th \, the Houthis attacked the Emirati capital of Abu Dhabi\, killing three people. \nCome listen to the expert opinion of Victoria Coates to learn whether the Abraham Accords\, painstakingly constructed during the previous administration\, can withstand the vicissitudes of the current administration. \nAbout the speaker: Victoria Coates is the Director of the Center for Security Policy’s program on the Middle East and North Africa\, which focuses on combatting global anti-Semitism\, promoting the U.S.-Israel alliance\, and combatting the threat from the Islamic Republic of Iran.  Coates works on regional issues such as energy policy\, countering predatory Chinese activity\, expanding the historic Abraham Accords between Israel and Muslim-majority nations\, and establishing a U.S.-led Middle East strategic alliance. \nCoates previously served as the Deputy National Security Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa on the National Security Council staff and the Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary of Energy in the Donald J. Trump administration.  She also served as the National Security Advisor in the office of Sen.Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) and as Director of Research for (former) Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s 2011 memoir\, Known and Unknown. \nCoates holds a B.A. from Trinity College\, a M.A. from Williams College\, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania\, all in art history.  Coates is the author and presenter of dozens of publications and conference papers worldwide on the intersections of art and history\, including David’s Sling: A History of Democracy in Ten Works of Art (Encounter Books\, 2016) and the forthcoming Seeing the Light: A History of Christianity in Twelve Works of Art (under contract with Encounter Books)\, which are part of a projected trilogy on the key tenets of Western Civilization: democracy\, the Judeo-Christian moral code\, and the primacy of the individual. \nCoates routinely appears on TV and radio outlets such as Fox News\, CNN\, OANN\, Newsmax\, The Hugh Hewitt Show\, The Erick Erickson Show\, The John Batchelor show\, and CSP’s own Secure Freedom Radio.  Her writing has appeared in Bloomberg\, FoxNews.com\, The Jerusalem Post\, The New York Post\, Newsweek\, The National Interest\, National Review\, The New Criterion\, The Wall Street Journal\, The Washington Examiner\, and The Washington Times.

SUMMARY:The Call to Stop the Iran Deal from Those Who Know the Regime Best
DESCRIPTION:Perhaps no one knows the evils of the regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran better than the Iranian Diaspora.  Many have witnessed loved ones and watched while tens of thousands of dissidents\, human rights activists\, members of religious minorities\, and members of the LGBTQ community have faced “show trials. ” These usually last no more than a few moments and frequently result in torture and execution. \nIf this “nuclear deal” does go through\, who are we empowering? Why are we ignoring the voices of thousands of courageous Iranian dissidents who despise the regime\, and cementing the rule of this repressive\, brutal theocracy seeking global hegemony? \nWhy are we trying to isolate one evil\, Russia\, while empowering another\, the Islamic Republic of Iran? And what can we possibly do about it? \nHere to answer these questions is Cameron Khansarinia\, Policy Director of the National Union for Democracy in Iran. \nAbout the speaker: Cameron Khansarinia is Policy Director of NUFDI\, a Washington-based non-partisan\, non-profit organization representing the Iranian-American community in pursuit of a US policy toward Iran rooted in democracy and human rights. Prior to joining NUFDI he lived in New York City and worked at BlackRock. He studied government and political theory at Harvard where he served as the President of the Iranian Association and as the Vice President of the Student Body. After the completion of his thesis under the advisement of Professor Harvey C. Mansfield\, he graduated in 2018.

SUMMARY:Introducing a Great American Hero: The Man Who Leaked the Iran Deal
DESCRIPTION:  \nGabriel Noronha worked on the Iran Desk at the Department of State\, and in early March many of his former colleagues at State\, the National Security Council and the European Union were so aghast at the dangerous concessions offered to Iran that they contacted him in the hope that he could get the word out to the world\, and indeed he has. \nGabriel’s March 4th Twitter thread and his excellent March 7th article in Tablet Magazine have made their way around the world\, and we at EMET have used this very valuable information to help inform Congress of what precisely will be negotiated away in Vienna if these talks are successful. \nGabriel served as Special Advisor for Iran in the U.S. Department of State Department from 2019 to 2020. He previously worked in the U.S. Senate from 2015 to 2019\, including on the Senate Armed Services Committee for Chairmen John McCain and Jim Inhofe. \nGabriel is continuing to find out extremely disturbing details of just how far the American negotiating team under Robert Malley has gone and is continuing to use his Twitter feed to expose it to as many people as possible so that we can bring it to our members of Congress. \nOur elected officials\, under Article II of the Constitution\, have an obligation to exercise Congressional oversight\, particularly for a deal that could potentially be so incredibly devastating to the national security interests of the United States\, and our allies. Based on much of the information that Gabriel has revealed\, there is only a slight chance that this horrendous deal might be scuttled. \nIt is up to every one of you to please watch this video and call your Representative and Senators and let them know that this deal\, if accepted\, would present a clear and present danger and existential threat to Israel and our Sunni Gulf allies\, and would be an assault on the national security interests of the United States.

SUMMARY:How Russia's Invasion of Ukraine Affects Israel's Perspective of Iran
DESCRIPTION:On February 24\, 2022\, most of the world woke up to the harsh realization that evil really does exist. Western Europe\, particularly Germany\, has reversed its long-held aversion to military spending and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz committed 2% of their GDP to defense. \nUnfortunately\, Israel has never been allowed the luxury of such slumber. Ever since Israel’s inception\, formidable forces have attempted to eliminate it. Israel has watched as Russian President Vladimir Putin commits atrocities against the valiant Ukrainian people\, and although Ukrainian Present Volodymyr Zelensky has made impassioned please for a “no-fly zone” to President Biden\, it has fallen on deaf ears. \nIsrael is now facing an existential crisis of its own\, with a regime that is every bit as evil as Russia: the Islamic Republic of Iran\, with which we are perilously close to a horrific nuclear agreement. Among other things\, the agreement will further cement the regime’s control with tens of billions of dollars\, and will give sanctions relief to some of the world’s worst terrorists. \nExperts agree that Iran is only weeks away from total nuclear breakout. Seeing how the United States has reacted to the crisis in Ukraine\, does that change Israel’s calculus when it comes to the nuclear project of the Islamic Republic of Iran? \nHere to answer those questions and more is Brigadier General Amir Avivi of the Israeli Defense Forces. \nAbout the speaker: Brigadier General Avivi concluded his service as the Head of the Auditing and Consulting Department of the Israeli Defense Establishment\, (including the Israel Defense Force\, the Ministry of Defense and Israeli Military Industries). In that position\, Avivi managed more than 100 military auditors and advisors. He was responsible for the audit of military readiness\, budgeting\, procurement\, projects\, bids\, cyber\, logistics\, infrastructure and operations. Avivi fulfilled various command positions in the Corps of Engineers leading thousands of soldiers in a dynamic combat environment. \nAvivi served as Brigade commander\, Deputy Division commander and head of the Military School of Engineers. He also served as the aide-de-camp for the Chief of the General Staff of the IDF\, Lt. General Moshe “Bogie” Yaalon. Avivi was at the heart of the policy-making process in the Israeli Government and Defense establishment during that term. Avivi also serves as the Principal of the New State Solution working group. Avivi is the Founder & CEO of Habithonistim.

SUMMARY:The Flawed Logic Behind the JCPOA
DESCRIPTION:As the entire world is focused on the humanitarian catastrophe resulting from the brutal war that Vladimir Putin has inflicted on Ukraine\, we at EMET have not taken our eyes off the ball of the enormous concessions that the Biden administration has offered to another enemy of the United States\, the Islamic Republic of Iran just to say\, “We have a deal!” \nWhat is behind this impulse to empower one enemy\, Iran\, as we are at war with another\, with whom Iran colludes? Why\, when the administration is trying to embargo Russian oil\, and has warned China against dealing with them\, has the administration\, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lerov\, given Russia “written guarantees “ that they can deal with Iran? \nWhy have we let Russia’s emissary\, Mikhail Ulyanov\, be our emissary in the negotiations in Vienna\, only for him to later brag about the degree of concessions that he and his Chinese colleagues were able to extract from America? \nHere to answer these questions and more was our esteemed friend and colleague\, David Wurmser.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the speaker: Dr. David Wurmser\, is a senior analyst and director of the Project on Global anti-Semitism and the US-Israel Relationship at the Center for Security Policy\, as well as being a senior fellow at the Kohelet Policy Forum.
