SUMMARY:The Threat from Hezbollah to Israel’s Northern Front
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe transcript will be available here \nHezbollah\, the Shiite terrorist group\, joined the barbaric attacks against Israel on October 8th. Hezbollah has stepped up its attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF)  and the communities living near the Lebanese border in northern Israel\, such as Metula and Kiryat Shmona\, despite the ceasefire declared in November\, 2024. The IDF have been given clear and specific instruction to pamphlet the “air knock” on homes\, trying to move the population to north of the Litani River. \nOn Thursday\, Sgt. Liem Ben-Hamo was killed in southern Lebanon\, and eleven of his fellow IDF soldiers have been injured\, and Hezbollah attacks have not ceased. Israel has tried to create a 10 kilometer buffer zone in southern Lebanon\, but despite that\, Hezbollah has been rearming\, regrouping and reorganizing. The Lebanese government has officially outlawed Hezbollah’s activities\, calling them “irresponsible” and “Illegal.” \nAbout Our Speaker: \nLieutenant Colonel (Res.) Sarit Zehavi is the founder and president of Alma\, a nonprofit and an independent research and education center specializing in Israel’s security challenges on its northern border. Sarit has briefed hundreds of groups and forums\, ranging from US Senators\, Congressmen/women\, and politicians to senior journalists and visiting VIP groups in Israel and overseas. Sarit scripts numerous position papers and updates focusing on Lebanon\, Syria\, and Israel’s national security challenges. She served for 15 years in the Israeli Defense Forces\, specializing in military intelligence\, holds an M.A. in Middle East Studies from Ben-Gurion University\, and is also a member of Forum Devora\, promoting the equal representation of women in key decision-making positions in the fields of national security and foreign policy. Her unique achievements led her to be selected by the Jerusalem Post as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Jews of 2021. \nSarit lives in the Western Galilee.

DESCRIPTION:The transcript will be available here \nThis past Thursday\, Radwan Special Forces Commander Ahmed Ghaleb Balout was eliminated by the IDF in a precision strike in Beirut’s Dahiyeh neighborhood.  Five IDF divisions\, collectively thousands of soldiers\, are now in Lebanon\, bracing themselves for the response. According to Hezbollah\, they are launching a wave of retaliatory measures. Hezbollah has also launched fiber-optic drones that do not use any signals\, but are connected to the operator by a thin cable\, that can avoid early detection\, and can strike with precision. These are very cheap drones\, about the size of a shoebox\, that cost just a few hundred dollars. One IDF soldier has already been killed by these\, and several have been injured. \nThis is the difficulty of the sort of asymmetric warfare that Israel must face. \nIn Gaza\, there is no serious response from Hamas to disarm\, aside from some empty\, pointless words. \nMeanwhile\, despite the standoff in the Strait of Hormuz\, the United States is still waiting for a serious and meaningful response from Tehran. \nCome hear the critically important words of Brigadier General Amir Avivi\, the Founder and President of the IDSF\, the Habithonistim\, an organization that fully contributes to the leadership and growth of the state of Israel. \nAbout Our Speaker: Amir Avivi was born 16 April 1969. He is a retired Israeli brigadier general at Israeli Defense Forces. He served as a military lieutenant at the Defense Establishment Comptroller Unit\, he was the commander of the Sagi Brigade and the chief of staff for Israeli general and politician Moshe Ya’alon. \nIn 2020\, he founded the NPO “Habithonistim” which consists of mainly high-ranking members of the Israeli security forces\, and has been its leader ever since. Too\, he is the chairman of the Israel Defense and Security Forum (IDSF). \nIn May 2023\, Avivi’s book No Retreat: How to Secure Israel for Generations to Come (ות) was published.
