Kurds

About this Issue

Next to Israel, the Kurdish people have proven to be the greatest ally of the U.S. in the Middle East. During both Iraqi wars, Iraqi Kurds in the north worked with U.S. troops to punish the Iraqi dictatorial regime of Saddam Hussein. And in Syria, the Kurds and their allies led the fight to destroy the Islamic State. The Kurds are the largest ethnic group that lacks its own independent state. EMET educates Congress on the importance of continuing to support the Kurds as moderate forces who can effectively assist the U.S. in promoting its interests in the region.
