SUMMARY:The Internal Kurdish Resistance against the Regime
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe transcript will be available here.  \nAs the possibility of the war with Iran widens\, President Trump has called upon Iran’s domestic opposition to generate onslaughts against the Islamic regime. President Donald Trump has offered “ extensive air coverage” to Iranian Kurds and other forms of support to defeat the regime. President Trump is calling on Iraqi Kurds to open the way for Iranian Kurds\, ant not to obstruct them on their path. As Bafel Talabani\, of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan relates about a phone call with President Trump\,  “Trump was clear in his call. He told us the Kurds must choose a side in this battle — either with America and Israel or with Iran.”  Another faction of the Kurds is led by Masoud Barzani of the Kurdish Democratic  Party. He had said that “It’s not about who has more active armed militias. It ‘s about who has more support from the inside.” A statement from another Kurdish party read\, “All Iranian Kurds must abandon their bases and with draw support from the regime’s armed and repressive forces.” \nOn Thursday\, the Iraqi Kurds reported attacks on their “political bases and headquarters” and a number of fatalities. They later  called Iran’s attack on their bases in Northwestern Iraq a sign of Iranian “weakness and deep fear.”  The Iraqi Kurds are substantially more organized than the Iranian Kurds. The statement from the Iraqi Kurds read that “the coalition will strengthen our resolve to continue to fight for the overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” \nIt has also been rumored that the CIA might provide training and weapons for an internal military exercise against the regime. \nHere to shed light on all of this is Diliman Abdulkader. \nAbout our speaker: Diliman Abdulkader is the founder of American Friends of Kurdistan (AFK)\, an advocacy and education organization established to strengthen\, protect\, and promote U.S.-Kurdish relations. AFK supports policies that advance the national security and prosperity of Americans\, Kurds\, and our other allies. Diliman comes from a foreign policy and national security background\, where he invests his time on Capitol Hill educating lawmakers and staffers about the plight of the Kurds. Diliman received his M.A. in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from American University in Washington\, D.C.

SUMMARY:The Tragic Plight of the Kurds
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe transcript will be available here  \n  \nThe Kurds\, a people who span parts of southeastern Turkey\,  northwestern Iran\, northern Iraq and northeastern Syria have an old expression\, “We have no other friends but the mountains.”  The Kurds have been remarkable allies of the United States against ISIS. They were there\, many time without any US or foreign backup\, killing and dying ISIS members in order to defeat the Islamic States. When Mark Sykes and  Charles Georges Picot prepared a draft agreement after World War I\, preparing borders for new states\, there was no attention given to minority groups\, such as the Kurds. When the war against ISIS was fully waging\, EMET worked very closely with the Kurdish people\, from 2016 on\, representing the Syrian Democratic Forces or the noble and courageous Peshmerga. \nToday\, we are looking at a new Syria\, where a former member of the Sunni jihadist group\, Hay ‘at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is ruling the country. Ahmad al-Sharaa\, or Mahammed al-Julani is determined to set an authoritarian\, Sunni Islamist regime in all of Syria\, with the assistance of Turkey. . What does this mean for the beleaguered Kurdish forces\, as well as the Druzes and Alawites and the Christians. What does this tell us abut the price of US alliance and friendship? \nDiliman Abdulkader is the Director of the American Friends of Kurdistan. He will answer why our envoy\, Thomas Barrack and  President  Donald Trump have “turned a blind eye” to Ahmad al-Sharaa’s swift takeover of the Kurdish controlled region of northwestern Syria\, and what is portend for the future of minorities throughout the Middle East\, as well as of the cost of being loyal to the United States. SUMMARY:How is the Kurdish Minority Being Treated in Syria Under Abu Mohammad al-Jolani and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham?
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe transcript will be available here \nHow is the Kurdish Minority Being Treated in Syria Under Abu Mohammad al-Jolani and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham? \nHayat Tahrir al-Sham began during the 2011 Syrian civil war. It was previously known as Jabhat al-Nusra\, an affiliate of Al-Qaeda\, which was designated by the US Department of State as a terrorist organization in May of 2018. Currently Mohammad al-Jolani\, also known as Ahamd al Sharaa\,  has been conducting interviews\, such as the one given to the BBC\, saying “Now\, after all that has happened\, sanctions must be lifted because they were targeted at the old regime. The victim and the oppressor should not be treated in the same way.” \nHowever\, there are some real victims of Hayat Tahrir al Sham. What is happening to the Kurdish minority that is living in Syria? What about the Christians\, Armenians\, the Turkmen and the Circassians? What about the women? Will they be given the same rights as men living in Syria? How safe is America\, Israel and the West with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in power? \nAbout Our Speaker: Diliman Abdulkader is the founder of American Friends of Kurdistan (AFK)\, an advocacy and education organization established to strengthen\, protect and promote U.S.-Kurdish relations. AFK supports policies that advance the national security and prosperity of Americans\, Kurds\, and our other allies. Diliman comes from a foreign policy\, national security background where he invests his time on Capitol Hill\, educating lawmakers and staffers on the plight of the Kurds. Diliman received his M.A. at the American University in Washington\, D.C.\, in International Peace and Conflict Resolution.
