SUMMARY:The Threat from Hezbollah to Israel’s Northern Front
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe transcript will be available here \nHezbollah\, the Shiite terrorist group\, joined the barbaric attacks against Israel on October 8th. Hezbollah has stepped up its attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF)  and the communities living near the Lebanese border in northern Israel\, such as Metula and Kiryat Shmona\, despite the ceasefire declared in November\, 2024. The IDF have been given clear and specific instruction to pamphlet the “air knock” on homes\, trying to move the population to north of the Litani River. \nOn Thursday\, Sgt. Liem Ben-Hamo was killed in southern Lebanon\, and eleven of his fellow IDF soldiers have been injured\, and Hezbollah attacks have not ceased. Israel has tried to create a 10 kilometer buffer zone in southern Lebanon\, but despite that\, Hezbollah has been rearming\, regrouping and reorganizing. The Lebanese government has officially outlawed Hezbollah’s activities\, calling them “irresponsible” and “Illegal.” \nAbout Our Speaker: \nLieutenant Colonel (Res.) Sarit Zehavi is the founder and president of Alma\, a nonprofit and an independent research and education center specializing in Israel’s security challenges on its northern border. Sarit has briefed hundreds of groups and forums\, ranging from US Senators\, Congressmen/women\, and politicians to senior journalists and visiting VIP groups in Israel and overseas. Sarit scripts numerous position papers and updates focusing on Lebanon\, Syria\, and Israel’s national security challenges. She served for 15 years in the Israeli Defense Forces\, specializing in military intelligence\, holds an M.A. in Middle East Studies from Ben-Gurion University\, and is also a member of Forum Devora\, promoting the equal representation of women in key decision-making positions in the fields of national security and foreign policy. Her unique achievements led her to be selected by the Jerusalem Post as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Jews of 2021. \nSarit lives in the Western Galilee.

SUMMARY:The View from the Israeli North with Lt. Col. Sarit Zehavi
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe transcript will be available here  \n  \nWhy must Israel maintain control of the Golan Heights\, which the US recognized as sovereign Israeli territory on March 25\, 2019?  What is the IDF doing inside of Syria\, and how is it protecting against further Hezbollah penetration into Lebanon? How is Hezbollah and the vastly metastasizing Shiite presence in Lebanon getting its funding for its armaments?  What is the “Al-Qard Al-Hassan” and how is it involved in Hezbollah’s operations in Israel’s north? Can the Lebanese government shut down this nefarious operation? \nHere to answer all of these questions and more\, is Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zahavi. \nAbout our Speaker:  \nLieutenant Colonel (Res.) SUMMARY:Hezbollah: Retraining\, Rearming and Rebooting
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nThe transcript will be available here \nHezbollah\, the radical Shiite political party and terrorist militia\, has been known as a “state within a state” in Lebanon since the fifteen-year Lebanese Civil War from 1975 through 1990. The over-riding conviction of the Iranian-backed terror proxy is its violent opposition to the existence of Israel and its rejection of Western values\, norms\, and influences of the Middle East. \nOn September 17\, 2024\, Israeli intelligence services planted explosives\, near the batteries of thousands of Hezbollah’s pagers. In what is referred to as “Operation Exploding Pager”\, these instruments exploded simultaneously throughout Lebanon and Syria. The following day\, hundreds of walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah also exploded. On September 27\, 2024\, the Hezbollah leader\, Hassan Nasrallah\, was killed by a strike by the Israeli air force over Dahiya\, a suburb of Beirut and a Hezbollah strong hold. \nMeanwhile however\, Hezbollah has been retrenching itself in southern Lebanon. On Saturday\, November 1st\, the IDF struck a vehicle with four Hezbollah Radwan terrorists inside. According to the Jerusalem Post\, the commander of these forces were attempting to re-establish the Hezbollah infrastructure and the transfer of weapons on the ground in southern Lebanon \nAt the same time\, Iran has been developing a proxy network of Hezbollah bases in neighboring Iraq\, aligned with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-l Quds force\, that can launch long-range missile and drone attacks toward Israel. \nWestern officials have recently said that “Hezbollah is rebuilding faster than the Lebanese government is dismantling them.” \nAbout Our Speaker: Lieutenant Colonel (Res.) Sarit Zehavi is the founder and president of Alma\, a nonprofit and an independent research and education center specializing in Israel’s security challenges on its northern border. Sarit has briefed hundreds of groups and forums\, ranging from US Senators\, Congressmen/women\, and politicians to senior journalists and visiting VIP groups in Israel and overseas. SUMMARY:What is Happening on our Northern Border with Syria and Lebanon?
DESCRIPTION:The transcript will be available here\n\n\nOn Monday\, the United Nations Security Council started to debate a French Resolution extending the mandate of UNIFIL for approximately one more year. The UN Security Council is supposed to vote on this on August 25th\, approximately 5 days from now. UNIFIL was established in 1978 to patrol Lebanon’s southern border with Israel. How much has UNIFIL accomplished? Has it turned a blind eye as Hezbollah’s activities\, as well as its arsenal\, along Israel’s northern border has grown? \nAlso\, looking towards Syria\, the United Nations Human Rights Council is investigating the government of Ahmed al-Sharaa as being guilty of war crimes\, particularly against the Druze and the Alawite neighborhoods. What sort of policy can Israel embark upon with Syria to be able to give its citizens defensible borders? \n\nAs assurances have been made that Hezbollah will be disbanded in Lebanon\, and the Syrian government of Ahmed al-Sharaa has been charged with war crimes\, we are inviting Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zehavi of the Alma Center in Israel to analyze and discuss how Israel can handle all of the myriad demands on its armed forces and how to best protect their civilian population.\nAbout Our Speaker: \nLieutenant Colonel (Res.) Sarit Zehavi is the founder and president of Alma\, a nonprofit and an independent research and education center specializing in Israel’s security challenges on its northern border. SUMMARY:How Has the Syrian Revolution and the Hezbollah Ceasefire Impacted the Lives of Israel’s Northern Communities?
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe transcript will be available here \nHow have the lightning rapid speed of the Syrian revolution and the fragile ceasefire with Hezbollah impacted the lives of the residents of Israel’s northern communities? Why has it been necessary for Israel to take over the Syrian part of Mt. Harmon and to destroy Assad’s weapons depots\, and it’s military and strategic assets? Is it necessary for Israel to take over several villages in Syria\, despite the reaction of the international community?  Turning to Lebanon\, there has been a continuation of the IDF discovering missile launchers\, KPGs\, and rockets. What are the goals of the IDF in Lebanon? What impact have all of these changes in Israel’s north had on the ability of the residents of the north to return home? Is Hezbollah in Lebanon undeterred? How trustworthy is Mohamad al Jolani (Ahmad al-Sharaa)\, in his declarations? What are the roots of Hyatt Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)\, and are his words simply an example of Takiya? \nHere to answer these questions and more it Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zehavi. \nAbout Our Speaker: Lieutenant Colonel (Res.) SUMMARY:Updates from Israel's Northern Front with Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zehavi
DESCRIPTION:Transcript will be available here \nEver since the barbaric attacks of October 7\, 2023\, the Iranian proxy Hezbollah has been itching to show solidarity with Hamas and get into the war. \nDuring this current war\, Hezbollah has lobbied over 10\,000 missiles into Israel\, causing at least 60\,000 to 70\,000 Israelis to become internally displaced refugees in their own homeland. Thousands of acres of farmland and forests have been destroyed by Hezbollah projectiles coming into Israel. \nIn mid-September\, Israel stunned the world by having scores of Hezbollah’s pagers and walkie-talkies exploding in their very hands. Shortly after that\, Israeli ground troops entered the northern front. \nAlthough the IDF has been successful in eliminating a great deal of the Radwan Force\, the IDF recently uncovered a tunnel system housing a Hezbollah underground command center replete with approximately a half-ton of explosives including Kalashnikovs\, hand grenades\, RPG’S\, and underground exploding devices\, and projectiles\, all beneath “innocent” communities and homes in southern Lebanon. \nAlthough some Israel national security advisors have stated that the IDF has eliminated at least 70 percent of the 150\,000 weapons from Hezbollah\, at least 30\,000 weapons remain. That can do a significant amount of damage. \nMeanwhile\, the United States has sent a special envoy\, Amos Hochstein into the region\, who has come back\, once again\, empty-handed. \nAmong the issues we will be discussing are the recent IDF discovery of a massive underground tunnel and what it means for the out some of the war. How many are there like this?  How the recent US plan\, conveyed by Amos Hochstein is any different from UN Security Council Resolution 1701. What kind of international force\, if any\, would be acceptable to Israel to enforce 1701? The significance of the recent capture of a Hezbollah sea captain by Israel. What might Israel be looking for?  UNIFIL “claimed” that Israeli troops have attacked it. What is the actual truth behind this story? Can ALMA explain UNIFIL’s reluctance to obey the IDF’s orders? \nHow ALMA might envision the end of the war on the northern front and whether Hezbollah or some other incarnation of it\, regroup. And whether there can be an independent Lebanon\, not dominated by Hezbollah How might that government look like? What can the US and other world powers do to ensure that will happen? \nAbout our Speaker: Lieutenant Colonel (Res.) Sarit Zehavi is the founder and president of Alma – a nonprofit and an independent research and education center specializing in Israel’s security challenges on its northern border. Sarit has briefed hundreds of groups and forums\, ranging from US Senators\, Congressmen/women\, and politicians to senior journalists and visiting VIP groups in Israel and overseas. SUMMARY:What is the Situation Today on Israel’s North?
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe transcript will be available here \nEver since October 8th\, the people in Israel’s north have endured approximately 8\,000 constant rocket\, missile\, and UAV attacks. Over 21\,000 acres of Israeli forests and farmland have been burned by Hezbollah missiles\, rockets\, and air strikes. Israeli citizens\, particularly in the north\, have been bracing themselves because of the elimination of Hezbollah leader Faud Shakir. Approximately 60\,000 to 80\,000 Israelis do not feel secure returning to their homes and have had to endure the feeling of being temporarily displaced persons within their own homeland. On August 25th\, Israeli intelligence learned that Hezbollah was about to launch a massive retaliatory strike for the elimination of Faud Shakir on Tel Aviv and central Israel\, including the Gilot base north of Tel Aviv\, which is home to the Mossad.  In this pre-emptive strike\, Israel was able to successfully take out scores of missile launchers and to successfully intercept Hezbollah’s incoming missiles. No Lebanese civilians were harmed in this IDF operation. \nOn top of this\, the United Nations just renewed the mandate for UNIFIL\, which has been in existence in southern Lebanon since March 1978. UNIFIL is supposed to rein in the presence of Hezbollah and to work in coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces\, a beneficiary of about $300\,000\,000 a year from the US taxpayer. \nHow effective is UNIFIL in preventing cross-border attacks? How effective has the Lebanese Armed Forces been? Just this week\, Hassan Nasrallah\, the Secretary General of Hezbollah has admitted that over 300 rockets this week\, were launched from southern Lebanon. These rockets have been launched from schools\, homes\, and mosques in communities in southern Lebanon\, just next to UNIFIL bases\, in clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. \nAre there tunnels reaching from southern Lebanon into northern Israel? Has the August 25th IDF operation prevented Hezbollah from launching more attacks on Israel? Why is the funding for UNIFIL constantly being renewed? Why\, as  Israel UN Ambassador Danny Dannon stated\, is the word “Hezbollah” missing from the UN resolution? Why is there no UN condemnation of Hezbollah? Is Lebanon working in coordination with Hezbollah? How is Hezbollah getting its massive weapons? Is Lebanon a real functioning state or simply a puppet state of Iran? \nAnd finally: What must Israel do to be able to restore calm and stability to Israel’s northern border and the Israeli citizens of the north? \nHere to answer these questions and more is Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zehavi of the Alma Center. SUMMARY:Confronting the Inevitability of War with Hezbollah
DESCRIPTION:READ TRANSCRIPT HERE \nSince October 8th\, the people of northern Israel have been subjected to thousands of rockets\, missiles and drones\, often directly targeting Israeli homes\, schools and civilians. This has left approximately 80\,000 Israelis displaced. Entire families have been living in hotel rooms and temporary housing since October. The residents of northern Israel cannot return to their homes unless there is some semblance of safety and security for their families. Cities like Metula and Kiryat Shmoneh have suffered wide-spread damage\, and look like ghost towns\, shrinking the map of the state of Israel. \nAs this is written\, Germany\, the Netherlands\, Canada\, North Macedonia\, Kuwait and now the United States have all asked their citizens to evacuate Lebanon. A report from The London Times says that Hezbollah is storing weapons in Beirut Airport. This week\, Prime Minister Netanyahu visited members of the 55th Paratroopers Brigade\, and said that the IDF has drawn up meticulous plans and is ready. \nDoes Israel have any other choice but to go to war with Hezbollah?  We know that Hezbollah has at least 150\,000 missiles that can swarm Israeli defense systems. What precautions is the Israeli government putting in place to protect Israeli civilians and their infrastructure? What has Lebanon’s responsibility been as an enabler of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon? Does this conflict have the potential of enlarging itself into a greater war between Iran and its allies and the West? \nHere to discuss these questions and more is Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zehavi. \nAbout Our Speaker: Lieutenant Colonel (Res.) Sarit Zehavi is the Founder and President of the Alma Research and Education Center. She served for 15 years in the Israel Defense Forces Intelligence Corps\, initially in research and analysis and later with the Northern Command\, and has held informative in-depth briefings in Washington\, D.C. with United States senators and representatives to advise them on security developments in Lebanon and Syria. Zehavi is recognized worldwide as an expert authority and impactful speaker on the security issues facing Israel today. She was selected by the Jerusalem Post as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Jewish personalities of 2021.

SUMMARY:The Uncertain Fate of Israel’s Northern Border
DESCRIPTION:  \n[READ TRANSCRIPT HERE] \n  \nFollowing the October 7th barbaric attacks on Israel\, Hezbollah\, the Iranian proxy that sits on Israel’s northern border\, had begun lobbing Katusha rockets\, mortar rockets\, drones\, and anti-tank missiles on Israel’s northern border. The Israeli government has evacuated 43 communities from Israel’s north\, leaving approximately 61\,000 Israelis as “internally displaced refugees.” Many are afraid to go home and are living in temporary residences and hotels until the northern border is more secure. In the meantime\, unfortunately\, both Lebanon and Syria have been strong allies of Hezbollah\, and neither of those two governments seem prepared to take on Hezbollah. Certainly\, the government of Lebanon remains under the tight grip of Hezbollah and is unwilling to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701\, which says that Hezbollah must go north of the Litani River. \nThe government of Israel has been saying for several months now that they will tackle Hezbollah after they have eliminated the threat from Hamas in the south. Do they now have the capability\, commitment\, and will to do this? If not\, what will become of Israel’s northern border\, and of the tens of thousands of evacuees from the north? \nHere to answer these questions is Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zehavi. \nAbout the Speaker: Lieutenant Colonel (Res.) Sarit Zehavi is the founder and president of Alma – a nonprofit and an independent research and education center specialized in Israel’s security challenges on its northern border. SUMMARY:Is Israel’s Northern Border Heating Up?
DESCRIPTION:[READ TRANSCRIPT HERE] \nThis webinar was generously sponsored by Donna Gary in loving memory of her husband Stuart Hunter Gary \nSheik Hassan Nasrallah of Hezbollah recently made a lengthy\, laconic speech\, that has been open to much analysis concerning whether or not the north of Israel will be yet another front in this existential war. In his remarks\, he blamed the United States “for being totally responsible for this war”\, and congratulated Hamas for their October 7th massacre of Israeli civilians and soldiers. He did not rule out wider escalation on Israel’s northern front. Just this past week\, however\, Iran’s Supreme Leader\, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei met with Hamas leader\, Ismail Haniya\, and rebuked him for not giving Iran a warning about the October 7th attacks. Yet\, Iranian-backed Hezbollah and other Iranian proxies have engaged in the heaviest clashes with Israel in almost 20 years\, with 7 IDF soldiers killed. Most villages in the northern border communities have been evacuated. Meanwhile\, US bases have been attacked approximately 50 times by Iranian-backed terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq. \nAbout the Speaker: Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zehavi is the CEO and founder of Alma – a nonprofit and an independent research and education center specialized in Israel’s security challenges on its northern border.
