SUMMARY:Phone Seminar: "Iran Deal: What Happens Next?" with Fred Fleitz
DESCRIPTION:When: Wednesday\, January 27\, 2016\nTime: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. ET\nCall-in Number: (712)-432-0075\nParticipant Code: 397784\n \nRegardless of Iranian aggressions\, sanctions violations\, and a deteriorating human rights record\, the Obama Administration and the West continue to push forward with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)\, the nuclear deal between Iran and the P 5 + 1.  On January 16th\, 2016\, the JCPOA was officially implemented\, and up to $150 billion in frozen funds were released\, while Western sanctions were officially waived. The very same day\, the US swapped Iranian spies for some American citizens held hostage by Iran\, and handed over another $1.7 billion\, supposedly for a “debt” payment\, but possibly as a ransom for the American hostages.  And the very same day\, three more Americans were grabbed by Iranian backed militias in Iraq. \nTo discuss recent events regarding the Iran nuclear deal\, EMET is proud to host national security expert Fred Fleitz. \n\nAbout Fred Fleitz:\nFred Fleitz is Senior Vice President for Policy and Programs with the Center for Security Policy\, a Washington\, DC national security think tank. Mr. Fleitz served in U.S. national security positions for 25 years at the CIA\, DIA\, Department of State and the House Intelligence Committee staff.  During the administration of President George W. Bush\, Mr. Fleitz was chief of staff to John Bolton\, then Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security.  During his tenure with the House Intelligence Committee\, he was the staff expert on the Iranian and North Korean nuclear programs and briefed key National Intelligence Estimates on these issues to committee members.  After he left government in 2011\, he founded and served as Director of the Langley Intelligence Group Network (LIGNET)\, Newsmax Media’s global intelligence and forecasting service.  Fleitz is a regular commentator on Secure Freedom radio and has appeared on the Fox News Channel.  Mr. Fleitz is the author of Peacekeeping Fiascoes of the 1990s (Praeger) and is working on books on intelligence reform and the Iranian nuclear program.  Mr Fleitz holds an MA in Political Economy from Fordham University and a BA in Politics from Saint Joseph’s University.

SUMMARY:Phone Seminar: Hear Directly from a Syrian Christian about the Plight of Syrians
DESCRIPTION:The Endowment for Middle East Truth \nInvites You to a Phone Seminar: \nHear Directly from a Syrian Christian about the Plight of Syrians \nFeaturing: \n  \nAhed al-Ahendi \n\nPlease direct any questions to dheffernan@emetonline.org  \nThe Syrian civil war is in its fourth year now\, with 250\,000 people killed.  President Assad still holds power in Damascus\, in a rump state largely in western Syria. Russia\, Iran and Hezbollah (from Lebanon) have all jumped in to support him\, with the former bombing much of the country\, and the latter providing thousands of ground troops for Assad. The Islamic State has taken huge areas to the east and north of the country\, and is slaughtering all non-Sunni Muslims in its area.  The Syrian Kurds have grabbed part of the north\, along with their Arab allies\, which are on the move against the IS. Turkey has also intervened\, and is busy bombing Kurdish areas. Millions of Syrians have become refugees; some fleeing to Europe\, where they are destabilizing the European Union. \nTo discuss this continuing civil war\, EMET will host a seminar with Ahed al-Hendi.  As a native of Syria\, and a Syrian Christian activist\, Ahed al-Hendi keeps in touch with other activists back home\, and will discuss the dire situation in his homeland\, especially for Christian and other minority Syrians.  \nAbout Ahed al-Hendi: Ahed al-Hendi is a Syrian-born human rights activist who has been living in Washington\, DC since 2009. He spent 40 days in prison in Syria for co-founding a pro-democracy group known as Syrian Youth for Justice. He was arrested at an Internet Cafe in Damascus in December 2006. Al-Hendi fled Syria to Jordan in April 2007. With the help of the American Embassy in Beirut\, Al- Hendi was granted refugee status in the United States of America. He flew from Lebanon to live in the U.S in January of 2009. When Syrian protests began in 2011\, Al-Hendi became one of the most outspoken Syrian Christian activists in the US\, speaking in support of the opposition and the revolution. He has briefed many Members of Congress\, and he has met with President George W. Bush\, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other high-level officials. He is in daily communication with a wide network of activists and researchers in Syria. His research on the Middle East has been published in \nForeign Policy\, Foreign Affairs\, Wall Street Journal\, Daily Beast\, Huffington Post\, Reuters\, CNN\, al- Hayat\, and al-Mustaqbal. He was interviewed by many International and Arabic TV network such as CNN\, Bloomberg\, Al Jazeera\, al-Hura\, France 24\, and Russia Today. He has lectured at the US Institute for Peace\, New American Foundation\, Hudson Institute.
