SUMMARY:"Anti-Semitism & Islamic Extremism: Consequences for Minorities in Europe & the Middle East"
DESCRIPTION:The Endowment for Middle East Truth invites you to a Dr. Miriam & Sheldon G. Adelson Capitol Hill Seminar: \n“Anti-Semitism & Islamic Extremism: Consequences for Minorities\nin Europe & the Middle East”\nFeaturing Member of European Parliament\, Lars Adaktusson & Tomas Sandell of European Coalition for Israel \nMonday\, January 30\, 2017\n1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. \nCannon House Office Building\nRoom 121 \nWashington D.C. \nRSVP Here\nLunch to be served. All dietary laws observed.\nPlease direct any questions to Deanne at dheffernan@emetonline.org\nWith the rise of radical Islam and jihadist ideology in Europe\, there have been at least a dozen major terror attacks in Western Europe since 2012\, from the streets of Berlin to Paris\, killing hundreds of innocent people.  At the same time\, there have been an increasing number of dangerous attacks on European synagogues and other Jewish targets\, and anti-Semitism is growing\, causing many Jewish Europeans to emigrate. \nHow are European leaders confronting the growth of radical Islam and anti-Semitism in Europe? To what extent does Europe realize that it is facing the same terror threat that the Jewish State of Israel faces on a daily basis? And is there a future for the Jews of Europe?\n\nPlease join us as we hear from special guests Tomas Sandell\, founding director of European Coalition for Israel and Lars Adaktusson\, Member of European Parliament.\n\nSandell and MEP Adaktusson will also discuss the ongoing genocide of Christians and other minorities in the Middle East.  \n\nAbout Tomas Sandell: Tomas Sandell is a former journalist who is the founding director of European Coalition for Israel\, the only non-Jewish advocacy group for Israel active both at the European Union level in Brussels and at the United Nations in New York. \nThe organisation was founded in 2003 by European Christians. In 2005 ECI initiated and hosted the first Holocaust Remembrance Day event in the European Parliament\, which later received the patronage of the President of the European Parliament and which today has become an official EU memorial event. \nIn 2010 ECI commemorated the 90th anniversary of the San Remo resolution which paved the way for the creation of the modern state of Israel. From 2011-2013 ECI presented the legal foundation of the state of Israel based on the San Remo resolution\, through lectures in national parliaments in Italy\, Netherlands\, Germany\, Britain and Japan as well as in the European Parliament in Brussels and to Permanent Representatives of the United Nations Security Council in New York. \nSince 2013 ECI has been active on the UN level in New York through its new initiative Forum for Cultural Diplomacy. Over the last three years the Forum has hosted high level diplomatic events at the UN which has marked the Jewish holidays and highlighted the many Jewish contributions to the international community. In 2013 the Forum initiated a process to ask the UN for an official recognition of Yom Kippur as a UN holiday. This recognition was finally granted by the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in December 2015. In April 2016 ECI co-hosted the first ever Pesach Seder inside the UN headquarters together with 35 UN ambassadors and senior UN officials. \nAbout Lars Adaktusson: After 35 years of journalism\, Mr Adaktusson was elected Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the conservative Christian Democratic Party of Sweden in 2014. Serving in the Foreign Affairs Committee\, his focus is on the security around the Baltic Sea as well as the Middle East. He is Vice Chair of the Intergroup for Freedom of Religion and Belief\, Vice Chairman of the EP Delegation for Afghanistan\, co-chair of the Friends of Chaldeans/Syriacs/Assyrians and a member of the Friends of Kurdistan working group. \nHe is also Chairman of the Europe Israel Public Affairs Committee and one of the few MEPs who voiced opposition to the deal with Iran. \nSince he entered politics\, he has made the persecution of Christian one of his major issues. Naturally\, this has brought his attention to the ongoing situation in Syria and Iraq. \nHe led the efforts to get the European Parliament to recognize the ongoing genocide against Christians (Chaldeans/Syriacs/Assyrians)\, which was done on February 4th\, 2016. \nIn October\, he was able to gather a majority of the parliament to support autonomy\, within the framework of the constitution of the Republic of Iraq\, for the Christians on the Nineveh Plain. As there is a risk of the area being divided by actors in the region\, there is a strong need for urgent action as well as pressure towards Baghdad and Erbil in order to secure a future for the Christians in Iraq. \nHe has been mandated by the twelve Christian parties of Iraq to explore the possibilities for a conference\, which would address federalism in Iraq\, reconstruction and reconciliation and security. Hopefully\, this conference will take place in Q1 of 2017 and include representatives from parties\, churches and NGOs as well as parliaments and governments from the West.

SUMMARY:Israeli Delegation's Perspective on Religious Freedom on the Temple Mount
DESCRIPTION:The Endowment for Middle East Truth\ninvites you to a Dr. Miriam & Sheldon G. Adelson Capitol Hill Seminar: \n“Israeli Delegation: Perspective on Religious Freedom on the Temple Mount and Recent Anti-Israel UN Activity”\nFeaturing Israeli Members of the Knesset\nSharren Haskel    &      Yehudah Glick \nThursday\, January 19\, 2017\n10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. \nCannon House Office Building \n  Room 121 \nWashington D.C. \nRSVP Here\nCoffee\, tea and pastries to be served. All dietary laws observed.\nPlease direct any questions to Deanne at dheffernan@emetonline.org \n\nThe anti-Israel United Nations Security Council Resolution passed last month was a demonization of the Jewish State. In addition to the many fallacies within it\, the resolution seeks to deny the Jewish connection to the capitol of the State of Israel – Jerusalem – and rewrite history by referring to East Jerusalem as “occupied Palestinian territory.” \nThe UN has a long history of singling out the Jewish State\, and denying the Jewish and Christian connect to the land. In October 2016\, UNESCO\, the U.N.’s Education\, Scientific and Cultural Organization\, passed a resolution denying Jewish and Christian claims to the Temple Mount. It also falsely claimed that Israel is an “occupying power\,” and blamed Israel for inciting violence at the Temple Mount. \nThe truth is\, Israel has done more to secure the rights of all faiths to their holy sites in Jerusalem than any other power in control of the city\, and that it is the Palestinian Authority that has continuously incited its people to violence at the Temple Mount by disseminating lies about Israeli and Jewish activity in the area. \nPlease join us as we have the honor to hear from two Members of Israel’s Knesset about the truth concerning the status of the Temple Mount\, despite what the UN or mainstream media might purport\, and efforts to change the situation. \n\nAbout Sharren Haskel: MK Sharren Haskel currently serves in Israel’s 20th Knesset for the Likud Part\, as its youngest member. \nSharren was born in Toronto\, Canada\, and her family immigrated to israel a year after her birth. Haskel served in the Israel Defense Force\, where she was a combat soldier with the Israeli Border Police during the time of the Second Intifada. She served as a commander and took part in operations to eliminate terrorist infrastructure. She speaks fluent French\, English\, and Hebrew. \nMK Haskel graduated form the AVT Australia program for veterinary nursing. She completed her bachelor’s degree in political science and international relations at the Open University of Israel\, where she was active on the debate team. In 2014\, Haskel won Israel’s National Debate Championship for Juniors. She is also an alumna of the Jewish Statesmanship Center in Public Policy. \nShe has been labeled the “Israeli Margaret Thatcher” in Haaretz newspaper. In May 2016\, MK Haskel was recognized the the Jewish Journal of the United States as a leader of a new generation of women in politics\, mainly for her extensive work around the world to defend Israel’s plicy and government. \nMK Haskel currently serves on the following committees of the 20th Knesset:\n– Foreign Affairs and Defense\n– Special Committee for Internal and Environmental Affairs\n– Special Committee on Drug and Alcohol Abuse\n– Science and Technology Committee \nAbout Yehudah Glick: Yehuda Joshua Glick was born in 1965 in Brooklyn\, New York\, and at the age of 9 immigrated to Israel with his parents and five siblings. The Glick family settled in Beersheba\, where Yehudah’s father was involved in the establishment of a new medical school. \nAfter graduating form high school in 1983\, Yehudah pursued rabbinical studies\, including a hesder program\, which is a special arrangement whereby young Israelis can combine advanced Talmudic studies with service in the Israel Defense Forces. Yehudah holds a B.A. in Education from Jerusalem College and an M.A. in Jewish History from Touro College. He is also a licensed tour guide\, credentialed by the Israel Ministry of Tourism. \nMK Glick’s professional resume includes: director of a program for immigrants from the former Soviet Union in Alon Shvut; various posts in the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption; Director General of the Temple Institute; Chairman of the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation; and Director of HaLiba\, the Initiative for Jewish Freedom on the Temple Mount. \nIn October of 2014 Yehudah narrowly survived an assassination attempt by a Muslim terrorist. The attempt on his life stemmed from his public advocacy of human rights\, including hte right to pray\, for all people – Muslims\, Jews\, Christians\, and others – on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount. As a result of Yehudah’s tireless efforts\, in April of 2015 he was announced to receive the 2015 Moskowitz “Lion of Zion” award. This honor is conferred on outstanding Israeli men and women who act from a feeling of personal responsibility\, vision\, and national mission\, often while sacrificing their personal welfare and even endangering their personal security. \nIn June 2016 Yehudah was elected to the 20th Knesset as a representative of the Likud part. He serves as a member on the Knesset committees for Education\, Culture\, and Sports and the Special Committee on Drug and Alcohol Abuse\, and as an alternate member on the Knesset’s Finance Committee and its Internal Affairs and Environment Committee. \nMK Glick and his wife\, Yafi\, live in Otniel\, Israel. The proud parents of eight children\, they also have six grandsons.

SUMMARY:Unilateral Action on Israel at the UN During the Lame-Duck Session
DESCRIPTION:The Endowment for Middle East Truth invites you to a Congressional Briefing:\n“Implications of UN or Obama Administration Action on the Israeli-Palestinian Peace Process During Lame-Duck Session”\n\nTuesday\, November 29\, 2016\n10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (Eastern Time)\nWashington\, D.C.\nRayburn House Office Building\nRoom 2226 \n\nSpeakers:\nClifford D. May\, founder and President of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD)\nAnne Bayefsky\, director of the Touro Institute on Human Rights and the Holocaust\nSarah Stern\, founder and President of the Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET)\nLight refreshments and coffee will be provided. All dietary laws observed. Please direct any questions to dheffernan@emetonline.org\n\nThe last two months of the Obama Administration might prove to be very dangerous for the long-term survival of Israel. We are afraid that this lame-duck session might be an opportunity for President Obama to refrain from vetoing a French proposal for unilateral Palestinian statehood along the pre-1967 lines. This might be something that Israel’s enemies could use to take Israel to the International Criminal Court of Justice and to further demonize the Jewish state. This will be in violation of American policy that Palestinian statehood should only result in direct\, bilateral negotiations between the two parties. \nPlease join us as we hear from experts on the implications of any actions that could be taken during the lame-duck session. \nRecent articles discussing the issue: \nhttp://www.washingtonexaminer.com/could-obama-stab-israel-in-the-back-at-the-un/article/2607198 \nhttp://www.wsj.com/articles/obamas-israel-surprise-1477956091 \nhttp://www.jpost.com/Opinion/Comment-Obama-dont-destroy-the-peace-process-by-turning-it-over-to-the-UN-471416

SUMMARY:9/11 Memorial: Honoring American Victims of Terrorism
DESCRIPTION:“9/11 Memorial: Honoring American Victims of Terrorism”\nSeptember 12\, 2016\n2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Eastern Time)\nRayburn House Office Building\nForeign Affairs Committee Room 2255\nPlease join us as we remember those who lost their lives on September 11\, 2001.\nRSVP Here\nConfirmed Speakers: Senator Ted Cruz\, Congressman Ron DeSantis\, Congressman Mark Meadows\, Sarah Stern\, Richard Heideman\, Alyza Lewin\, Yaakov Morgenstern – family member of Nancy Morgenstern\, a victim of 9/11 terrorist attack\, Sarri Singer – victim of Palestinian terrorism\, & Ken Stethem – family member of Robert Stethem\, a victim of Iranian-backed terrorism \nInvited Speakers: American Victims of Terrorism & Family Members \nOn the fifteenth anniversary of the horrific events of September 11\, 2001\, the United States and the Western world face the same threat by genocidal Islamic terrorists that were responsible for the death of the nearly 3\,000 Americans on U.S. soil. \nAt the end of 2015\, and during 2016\, there were a number of spectacular and deadly Islamist attacks in the United States and in Europe.  In California\, 14 Americans were killed by an Islamist terror couple.  In Florida\, 49 Americans were killed at a night club by another Islamist.  In Paris\, Brussels\, and other places in Europe\, hundreds more people\, including some Americans\, were also killed by Islamist terrorists. \nIn 2016\, as always\, Iran continues to spend billions of dollars to pay the salaries of terrorists fighting in the Middle East\, including Iraq\, Syria\, Yemen\, Lebanon\, Judea\, Samaria and the Gaza Strip.  Iran’s terrorist proxy Hezbollah has been responsible for the deaths of more Americans than other terrorist organization prior to 9/11. Iran continues to provide Hezbollah with $100-200 million per year\, a figure that will certainly increase with the current Iranian nuclear deal. \nLikewise\, Saudi Arabia and other Sunni Arab funders have provided money to Islamist terrorists. \nThis year\, EMET also plans to focus specific attention on those Americans who have been killed or injured by Islamist terrorists.  This will include the 67 Americans who have been murdered by Palestinian terrorists in Israel and Judea and Samaria since the signing of the Oslo Accords.  None of the killers of these Americans has ever been brought to justice on our shores.  Even though American victims of overseas terrorism have certain rights outlined in the Anti-Terrorism Act\, which requires the prosecution and punishment\, in United States courts\, of individuals who murder or maim American citizens in acts of international terrorism. The Office of Justice for the Victims of Overseas Terrorism (OJVOT) was established in 2005 to serve as an advocate for victims of overseas terrorism. But the office has only helped the DOJ prosecute one case\, involving the killing of an American missionary in Indonesia. \nWhat are the critical lessons that the U.S. should take from the 9/11 attacks? What should the United States do to safeguard our homeland and prevent future attacks on U.S. soil?  What should the U.S. do to bring to justice terrorists who have harmed Americans?  How can the U.S. limit the influence of Islamist terrorism to protect not only our allies in the Middle East\, but the people of the United States of America? \nPlease join us as we explore these questions and more with national security experts\, while commemorating the lives of the nearly 3\,000 Americans taken 15 years ago. \n\nAbout Senator Ted Cruz: In 2012\, Ted Cruz was elected as the 34th U.S. Senator from Texas. A passionate fighter for limited government\, economic growth\, and the Constitution\, Ted won a decisive victory in both the Republican primary and the general election\, despite having never before been elected to office. \nIn the Senate\, Ted serves on the Committee on Commerce\, Science\, and Transportation; the Committee on Armed Services; the Committee on the Judiciary; the Joint Economic Committee; and the Committee on Rules and Administration. \nA staunch supporter of Israel and a fierce advocate for American victims of terrorism\, Cruz introduced the PLO Accountability Act to close down the PLO office in Washington\, DC due to the Palestinian leadership’s incitement and efforts to delegitimize Israel in international forums; speaks out against Palestinian terrorism that has targeted both Israeli and American citizens; chaired a hearing on how the executive branch more often than not does not stand up for American victims of terrorism; sent a bipartisan letter urging the EU not to move forward with discriminatory labeling guidelines on certain Israeli products promoting a de-facto boycott of Israel; introduced legislation to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s eternal capital; and introduced a bipartisan resolution that denounced Hamas for using civilians as human shields and supporting Israel’s right to defend itself. \n  \nAbout Congressman Ron DeSantis: U.S. Congressman Ron DeSantis is in his second term as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida. He put himself through school\, first by earning a bachelor of arts\, magna cum laude\, at Yale University\, and then graduating with honors from Harvard Law School.  DeSantis joined the Judge Advocate General Corps of the U.S. Navy in 2004 before completing his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2005. As a military prosecutor he worked in Guantanamo Bay\, Cuba\, and Iraq. Congressman DeSantis served in the 2007 troop surge in Iraq. In 2008\, the Department of Justice appointed him to serve as a federal prosecutor in the office of the U.S. Attorney in the Middle District of Florida. Since being elected to the U.S. House in 2012\, Congressman DeSantis has served on the Judiciary\, Foreign Affairs and Oversight & Government Reform Committees.  He currently serves as the chairman of the Oversight Committee’s National Security subcommittee and as the vice-chairman of the Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice. \nThroughout his Congressional career\, the Congressman has always been a courageous and forthright friend of the State of Israel.  He was a sponsor of the Non-Discrimination of Israel in Labeling Act\, he introduced the Palestinian Accountability Act\, and has always been a strong opponent of the Boycott\, Divestment\, and Sanctions movement. As an accomplished JAG officer\, Congressman DeSantis also understands the importance of attaining justice for all Americans who have been harmed by terrorists. On February 2nd\, 2016\, his National Security Oversight Subcommittee held a groundbreaking hearing called “Seeking Justice for American Victims of Palestinian Terrorism\,” on the failure of the Department of Justice (DOJ) to prosecute for American victims of Palestinian terrorism killed or wounded in Israel or the disputed territories. Although the DOJ has had the necessary tools to obtain justice for over twenty-five years now\, and 66 Americans have been killed\, and over a hundred Americans injured\, by Palestinian terrorists\, not a single Palestinian terrorist has ever been prosecuted for these crimes. Thanks to this hearing\, the DOJ was forced to defend its record of inaction under oath\, and great pressure has been placed on them to prosecute Palestinian terrorists. Congressman DeSantis was also one of the first Members of Congress to speak out against the Iran deal after it was announced\, and called it “an insult to the memories of the people who lost their lives on our behalf [and] for that reason in addition to all the other great ones\, we need to reject this deal resoundingly.” \nAbout Congressman Mark Meadows(R-NC): Congressman Meadows introduced theHezbollah International Financing Prevention Act of 2014\, a bill that would impose sanctions on foreign financial institutions that facilitate transactions or money laundering on behalf of Hezbollah or its agents.  Hezbollah is designated a terrorist organization in the United States. The bill passed in the House of Representatives. Meadows said that “we must pass this legislation to make sure that we can do is cripple their ability to finance and put people out of harm’s way.” \nCongressman Meadows is the Chair of a Subcommittee of House Oversight and Government Reform\, and held a hearing to examine the danger of Islamist and other terrorists using the Mexican border to enter the United States. \nMeadows also serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. \nAbout Richard D. Heideman: Richard D. Heideman is Senior Counsel of Heideman Nudelman & Kalik\, PC and represents victims of terrorism whose rights have been violated. On their behalf\, actions have been brought against Libya\, Syria\, Islamic Republic of Iran and banking institutions accused of funding or sponsoring heinous acts of terror. \nHeideman received the Distinguished Merito de Mayo decoration by President Duhalde of Argentina\, the Heritage Award from Israel Bonds\, the Joseph Papp Racial Harmony Award from the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding and numerous other recognitions. \nCurrently serving as Chair of The Institute for Law and Policy at the Hebrew University Faculty of Law\, Chair of the Israel Forever Foundation and Honorary President of B’nai B’rith International\, he has served as President of the George Washington University Law School Alumni Association\, Co-Chair of The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Lawyers Committee and Chair of The Herzliya Conference International Advisory Board. \nHe is the author of “The Hague Odyssey: Israel’s Struggle for Security on the Front Lines of Terrorism and Her Battle for Justice at the United Nations”.\n\nAbout Alyza Lewin: Alyza Lewin is an attorney in Washington\, DC. She specializes in litigation\, mediation and government relations. She currently practices law together with her father\, Nathan Lewin\, at Lewin & Lewin\, LLP. Her work involves criminal defense\, civil litigation and anti-discrimination matters. Ms. Lewin is also a certified mediator. \nIn November 2014\, Ms. Lewin argued Zivotofsky v. Kerry before the U.S. Supreme Court. This separation-of-powers case involved the right of an American citizen born in Jerusalem to list “Israel” as the place of birth on his/her U.S. passport. \nIn addition to the Zivotofsky case\, Lewin & Lewin has handled numerous cases of interest to the Jewish community including representing the family of David Boim in the landmark civil tort litigation (Boim v. The Holy Land Foundation\, et al) which established the right of American victims of terror to obtain damages under American law against organizations that knowingly provide financial support to international terrorist groups. \nPrior to establishing Lewin & Lewin in May 2002\, Ms. Lewin worked at Wilmer Cutler and Pickering (now WilmerHale) and at Miller Cassidy Larroca and Lewin. Ms. Lewin began her law career in Israel where she clerked on the Supreme Court for Deputy President Justice Menachem Elon. Ms. Lewin is President of the American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists (“AAJLJ”); and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater Washington. Ms. Lewin also served on the Board of Directors of the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia from 2001-2004.\nMs. Lewin is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and New York.  She received her B.A. from Princeton University in 1988 and a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1992. She is married to Eliezer M. Halbfinger and has four children. \nAbout Yaakov Morgenstern: His sister\, Nancy Morgenstern\, who worked for Cantor Fitzgerald – a Wall Street securities firm in the World Trade Center – was a victim of the 9/11 terrorist attack. \nAbout Sarri Singer: Sarri Singer\, born in Lakewood\, New Jersey\, is the daughter of New Jersey State Senator\, Robert Singer. Until 9/11\, Sarri worked two blocks away from the World Trade Center. Deeply moved by the tragedy of 9/11\, Sarri decided to resign from her position in December 2001 and move to Israel to help victims of terror. While there\, Sarri coordinated bone marrow drives for Gift of Life and volunteered with various organizations working with victims of terror. \nOn June 11\, 2003\, Sarri was on Bus 14 in Jerusalem when an 18 year old Palestinian terrorist dressed as a religious Jew boarded and blew himself up. 16 people were killed\, including all those seated and standing around her\, and over 100 people were injured. Sarri was hospitalized for two weeks and then returned to New Jersey to be with family. Her story became high profile. She appeared on television stations such as CBS\, FoxNews\, CNN and radio interviews. She spoke before members of Congress in Washington\, D.C. and politicians in New York and New Jersey. In September 2003 she returned to work and volunteering in Israel. In June 2004\, she returned to the United States to take care of medical issues associated with her attack. \nSarri is the Founder and Director of Strength to Strength (www.stosglobal.org)\, a non-profit organization focusing on bringing together victims of terrorism together from around the world and assisting with long term psychological needs. Sarri has addressed audiences throughout the United States\, Canada\, South America\, Europe\, and Israel and continues to share her unique insight into the ongoing struggle for victims of terror in Israel and around the world. \nAbout Ken Stethem: is a Navy Seal (ret.)\, an American hero\, and a  great patriot\, whose brother Robert Stethem was  brutally murdered by Iranian-backed  Hezbollah terrorists when they hijacked TWA flight  847 in 1985.  Because he was wearing a uniform of the United States of America\, Robert was specifically singled out by these Iranian backed terrorists\, to be brutally tortured before they put a gun to his head. \nAbout Sarah Stern:  Sarah Stern is the Founder and President of the Endowment for Middle East Truth\, (EMET)\, an unabashedly pro-Israel and pro-America think tank and policy shop in Washington DC. Sarah has more than 30 years of experience on Capitol Hill\, and has helped to draft and pass many pieces of legislation\, speeches and congressional resolutions including the Koby Mandell Act which resulted in the opening of an office in the Department of Justice (DOJ) entitled the Office for Justice of Victims of Overseas Terrorism (OVT); the Syria Accountability Act; and a Resolution in support of Israel’s right to build a security fence and defend her citizens the way they deem appropriate.   Sarah was also instrumental in getting several amendments to Title VI of the Higher Education Opportunities Act in passed in 2008\, to correct the anti-American and anti-Israeli biases in Middle East Studies programs that have been funded\, at taxpayers’ expense\, to a number of U.S. universities. \nThe OVT is supposed to be an advocacy group within DOJ for Americans who have been killed and wounded abroad. Unfortunately\, the DOJ continues to refuse to prosecute Palestinian terrorists who have killed or wounded Americans.  Sarah and EMET work relentlessly on achieving justice for US victims of Palestinian terrorism by holding meetings with congressional staffers and Members of Congress on the issue\, having initiated multiple letters to the DOJ\, organizing a staff briefing on the Hill\, and successfully calling for and prompting two Congressional hearings on the issue. \nSarah’s work has appeared in numerous media outlets\, she has appeared on television and radio\, and has spoken throughout the country on topics pertaining to Israel and the Middle East.  Sarah is the editor and author of the highly acclaimed book\, “Saudi Arabia and the Global Islamist Terrorist Network: America and the West’s Fatal Embrace.” Additionally\, she is the author of one novel\, “Cherished Illusions\,” (2005\, Balfour Books)\, and has written a chapter in Frank Gaffney’s widely acclaimed book\, “War Footing” (Naval Press. 2006).

SUMMARY:"Exposing BDS: The Movement That Seeks to Destroy Israel"
DESCRIPTION:The Boycott\, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement is an international anti-Israel movement that seeks to delegitimize and ultimately destroy the State of Israel through the use of political and economic warfare and false accusations. The BDS movement uses gross lies to demonize the Jewish State of Israel – such as by wrongly comparing Israel to apartheid South Africa – in order to win activists on its side. Yet the movement is inherently anti-peace\, while opposed to any type of negotiations with Israel or Israelis\, even if it is for the benefit of the Palestinians\, and often uses-anti-Semitic tactics to delegitimize and undermine Israel’s existence as a sovereign state. \nThe BDS movement’s global reach\, from calls by BDS activists on U.S. college campus for universities to divest from Israel\, to the European Union voting to label products from Judea and Samaria (the West Bank)\, should be a concern for all Americans and the rest of the free world. Please join us as we hear from experts from around the world about the challenges the BDS movement poses\, and how we may work to combat them. \n*Just Confirmed: Congressman Louie Gohmert\, Congressman Pete Sessions\, & Congressman Erik Paulsen to speak * \nAbout Sarah Stern: Sarah Stern is the Founder and President of the Endowment for Middle East Truth\, (EMET)\, an unabashedly pro-Israel and pro-America think tank and policy shop in Washington DC. \nSarah’s work has appeared in numerous media outlets\, including The New Republic\, The Middle East Quarterly\, Israel Hayom\, Frontpagemag.com; Breitbart\, InFocus\, The American Thinker\, The Jerusalem Post\, The Times of Israel\, and the Washington Jewish Week\, among others. She has appeared on television and radio\, and has spoken throughout the country and in Israel on topics including the U.S.-Israel relationship\, the Iranian nuclear threat\, global terrorism\, Post Zionism\, the corruption of the Palestinian Authority\, and many more related issues. 2006). \nAbout Yossi Dagan: Dagan stands at the head of the Shomron Regional Council – the most significant council in Judea & Samaria\, the cradle of biblical history\, a region which constitutes 12% of the country\, lying in the very core of the Land of Israel and vitally strategic to the security of the State of Israel. With an annual population growth of 8-10% (the highest in Israel)\, the Shomron (Samaria) is also renowned for its excellent quality wines and diverse industry\, in which Dagan promotes cooperation and coexistence between Arabs and Jews. \nDagan is married\, father of three\, holds an LL.B and an LL.M (Law)\, specializes in mediation and dispute settlement\, a reserve Captain in the I.D.F. and\, above all\, is the motivating factor behind the political and advocative actions which have changed the map with regards to Shomron settlements. \nThanks to his diverse relationships\, Yossi Dagan has led highly influential national processes:\nDuring his tenure as Deputy Chairman of the Regional Council (2012-2015)\, he established an advocacy network which brought influential personalities – amongst the most prominent in Israel – and politicians\, diplomats and media both from Israel and abroad to the Shomron. Within a short period\, more than 200\,000 Israelis came to the Shomron and over 2500 tours were conducted for V.I.P.s\, public opinion setters and policy makers. These tours contributed to the change in the perception of the Shomron among many leaders and key agenda setters. Many other local authorities in Judea and Samaria and in the periphery of Israel have emulated the successful model that Dagan has created in the Shomron. \nIn the last few years\, Dagan has been a leader in the battle against the de- legitimization of Israel\, including the war against the BDS. Thanks to his bold ties with business and diplomatic factors\, and by implementing sophisticated procedures\, Dagan has succeeded in creating and strengthening international business relations with the Shomron. \nDagan stands at the head of one of the central and most powerful factions in the Likud Party and is considered the leading personality in the leadership of the Judea and Samaria settlements today. He is considered closely affiliated with Prime Minister Netanyahu\, Ministers in the Likud and is influential in right wing parties in Israel\, particularly in The Jewish Home (“Habayit Hayehudi”) and “Yisrael Beiteinu”. \n\nAccording to Israeli media\, Dagan was the persona behind the negotiations for the change in the composition of the government to create the most national government Israel has known in years by the appointment of Avigdor Leiberman as Minister of Defense and the inclusion of “Yisrael Beiteinu” in Netanyahu’s present coalition. \nAbout Chloe Valdary: A former Tikvah fellow at the WSJ\, Chloé Valdary is the Director of Partnerships & Outreach at Jerusalem U. In 2015\, she completed a fellowship under the auspices of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Bret Stephens. In 2013 and 2015\, she was named as one of the top 100 people positively affecting Jewish life in the Algemeiner. Her work as a Zionist thinker and human rights activist has been featured on Huffington Post Live\, Israel Hayom\, The Jerusalem Post\, and The Daily Beast\, among others. \nAbout John Calvin: He was born in the city of Shcheam in Judea and Samaria (Nablus\, West Bank) in 1990\, into a Hamas founding family\, Muslim extremists and utterly anti-Semitic. He was raised on these same values and beliefs as Calvin was expected to one day inherit my family’s “legacy”: indoctrinated to hate Jews\, the state of Israel and everything thing it stood for. \nAt the age of 14 John had a humanitarian and compassionate encounter with Israeli Jewish people. This encounter was so contrary to anything he had been led to value or believe that his entire past just crumbled. Calvin quickly began to distant himself from Islam\, Hamas\, and family and\, at age 19\, converted to Christianity. He immediately\nbecame a target for death and imprisonment by family\, Hamas\, and the Palestinian Authority for apostasy.\nJohn received a scholarship to attend a university in Toronto\, Canada and moved there in 2010 where he later applied for a refugee status and lived for 5 years studying\, working\, and aspiring to become a Canadian citizen. Unfortunately\, Canada ordered him deported due to his family ties in January 2015 and\, after exhausting all options to\noverturn my deportation order\, Calvin made his way across the border to the U.S. In April 2016 he was released from immigration detention and granted a Deferral of Removal under the UN’s Convention against Torture (CAT).\nSince then he moved to New York where he is waiting for a work authorization visa so that he can eventually continue his education and apply for law school. Meanwhile Calvin has been writing a book and volunteering with various groups and organizations to fight anti-Semitism\, the BDS movement and advocate for Israel.

SUMMARY:"Turkey: Ramifications After the Attempted Coup" with Dr. Schanzer & Dr. Erdemir
DESCRIPTION:“Turkey: Ramifications After the Attempted Coup”\nFeaturing: \n \n    Dr. Aykan Erdemir   &   Dr. Jonathan Schanzer \nWednesday\, August 10\, 2016\n12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.\nRayburn House Office Building \n  Room B-339  \nRSVP Here\nOn July 15-17\, 2016\, elements of the Turkish military may have attempted a coup against Erdogan.  This coup failed\, with about 250 Turks killed and another 2000 plus wounded.  President Erdogan has been quoted as saying “This uprising is a gift from God to us because this will be a reason to cleanse our army.” \nSince the coup\, President Erdogan has jailed 13\,000 Turks\, some of whom may have been tortured\, and including children.  Erdogan has dismissed or suspended some 60\,000 people from their jobs\, including military servicemen\, judges and prosecutors – also two members of the Constitutional Court – police\, civil servants and teachers.  One third of the nation’s general have been purged\, which will undoubtedly weaken Turkey’s participation in the war against ISIS. More than 2\,250 social\, educational or health-care institutions and facilities have been seized.  Turkey has also issued a ban on professional travel for all academics.  Turkey has closed down 130 media organizations\, including 16 television stations\, 23 radio stations\, three news agencies\, 15 magazines and 45 newspapers. \nThe Turkish President also demanded that the U.S. extradite Fethullah Gülen\, a Turkish Islamist whose Gulen Movement was originally allied with Erdogan.  Erdogan claims that Gulen was behind the coup.  Erdogan threatened that it would be “big mistake” if U.S. does not extradite Gulen. \nErdogan also declared a three-month state of emergency and suspended the European Convention on Human Rights. \nHow will the attempted Turkish coup\, and President Erdogan’s increasing brutal crackdown on his rivals\, impact the U.S. national security? How will it affect Israel and the rest of the Middle East? \nPlease join us as we hear from Dr. Jonathan Schanzer and Dr. Aykan Erdemir as they explore this topic. \n  \nAbout Dr. Jonathan Schanzer: Dr. Jonathan Schanzer is vice president of research for the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.  Dr. Schanzer served as a counterterrorism analyst at the U.S. Department of the Treasury\, where he took part in the designation of numerous terrorism financiers.  He is a former research fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.  He is also the author of several Middle East focused books. \nDr. Schanzer has studied Middle East history in four countries.  He earned his Ph.D. from King’s College London\, where he wrote his dissertation on the U.S. Congress and its efforts to combat terrorism in the 20th century. \nAbout Dr. Aykan Erdemir: Dr. Aykan Erdemir is a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. Dr. Aykan Erdemir is a former member of the Turkish Parliament (2011-2015) who served in the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee\, EU Harmonization Committee\, and the Ad Hoc Parliamentary Committee on the IT Sector and the Internet. As an outspoken defender of pluralism\, minority rights\, and religious freedoms in the Middle East\, Dr. Erdemir has been at the forefront of the struggle against religious persecution\, hate crimes\, and hate speech in Turkey. He is a founding member of the International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief\, and a drafter of and signatory to the Oslo Charter for Freedom of Religion or Belief (2014) as well as a signatory legislator to the London Declaration on Combating Antisemitism.

SUMMARY:"Religious Minorities in the Middle East" with Rev. El Shafie
DESCRIPTION:Featuring:\n\nRev. Majed El Shafie \nRayburn House Office Building\nRoom 2226\nMonday\, November 16\, 2015\n12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.\nRSVP\nLunch to be served. All dietary laws observed.\nPlease direct any questions to dheffernan@emetonline.org \n\nIn June of 2015\, Islamic State took control of Mosul\, Iraq.  ISIS militants went into towns and penned in red paint an Arabic “n” for Nazarene\, a Christian slur\, over Christian homes\, to demarcate what Iraqis would be subject to religious persecution.  This is just one example of the current dangerous religious persecution occurring in the Middle East. \nThe modern growth of radical Islam inside the Muslim world has resulted in increasing persecution\, and sometimes even massacres\, of Christians\, Yazidis\, Zoroastrians and other religious minorities in the Middle East. Most of the Middle Eastern nations\, including Iran\, Iraq\, Syria\, Libya\, the Islamic State\, and Saudi Arabia\, discriminate against Chaldean Christians\, Assyrian Christians\, Armenians\, Yazidis\, Baha’is\, etc. In these Muslim majority nations\, non-majority Muslims and non-practicing Muslims are also persecuted for not being “Muslim enough.” In Iraq\, thousands of Yazidi women have been sold into sex slavery\, and those who were captured while pregnant were forced to have abortions before becoming Islamic State sex slaves. Before the Syrian civil war broke out in 2011\, the historic Assyrian Christian community numbered 2 million.  In 2013\, the “Free Syrian Army” rebels massacred 45 Christian men\, women\, and children in Sadad\, an ancient Orthodox Christian town.  Today\, many Assyrian Christians have been murdered by Syrian rebels\, Islamic State militants and sold into sex slavery — close to half have fled Syria. Even more moderate Arab nations\, such as Egypt\, have seen extensive persecution of Coptic Christians. \nThis persecution and genocide has had serious consequences. Overall\, Christians in the Middle East have at most accounted for 14% of the Middle Eastern population\, now that number has dropped to a staggering 4%.  Yazidis have been forced from their ancestral territory in Iraq.  And religious persecution in the Middle East is threatening some of the world’s most historical populations towards becoming extinct. \nTo discuss this growing problem in the Middle East\, EMET is proud to bring in the Rev. Majed El Shafie. \nAbout Rev. El Shafie:\n\nRev. Majed El Shafie is the founder of One Free World International: a voice for the voiceless. Conducting daring rescue missions\, building bridges between communities\, advocating for changes around the world\, and raising awareness about those who are persecuted for their beliefs. His human rights journey started in his native Egypt. After being severely tortured and sentenced to death for his conversion to Christianity and bringing awareness to human rights violations\, Majed was forced to flee his homeland. \nBelonging to a very prominent legal and political family in Egypt\, Rev. El Shafie had tried to work within the Egyptian system to reform the country’s human rights regime. Between the challenges he faced in these efforts\, his firsthand experience as a survivor of religious persecution\, the work he has engaged in since advocating for religious freedom\, confronting governments that violate this fundamental right\, and conducting fact-finding missions and humanitarian/rescue operations\, he has obtained significant knowledge and insight into the dynamics of persecution of religious minorities by religious extremists and totalitarian governments alike. \nHe has organized and led delegations of parliamentarians and religious leaders to address minority rights and humanitarian issues with government leaders\, including several cabinet ministers and other high-level officials\, opposition leaders\, and religious leaders among others in Pakistan\, Afghanistan\, Iraq\, Israel\, and Cuba. \nLeading North American and international news media have featured his work which has also been the subject of an award-winning feature-length documentary entitled the “Freedom Fighter” and subsequently the book the “Freedom Fighter” was published depicting Rev. El Shafie’s fight for “one free world”.

SUMMARY:"An Analysis of the Upsurge of Terrorism in Israel"
DESCRIPTION:An Analysis of the Upsurge of Terrorism in Israel \n  \n \nYaron Gamburg \nTuesday\, October 20\, 2015\n12:00 PM-1:00 PM (Eastern Time)\nRayburn House Office Building\nRoom 2255  \nRSVP to: dheffernan@emetonline.org\nPlease Include Subject Line: “Terror in Israel” \n Dietary laws observed. \nIsrael is under attack: this month Palestinian terrorists launched a vicious and systematic terror campaign against innocent Israelis living all over the country\, including in Tel-Aviv\, Jerusalem\, Ra’anana\, and other major cities. Terrorist stabbings\, car-rammings\, and rock throwing have resulted in the deaths of nine innocent Israelis\, and dozens wounded\, many very seriously. These attacks are encouraged and supported by Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas. \n\nAbbas has been inciting violence through outright lies; in a speech on October 14th Abbas made outrageous claims of “Israeli executions of children” and stated\, “It is our right to continue our peaceful struggle in order to achieve our independence\, and our victory will come.” Abbas and the PA have been supporting Palestinian terrorism against Israel for the last two decades since the Oslo Accords\, with Palestinian state media regularly applauding suicide bombers\, and calling on children to become martyrs.\n\nWhat are the precursors to this most recent escalation of terror in Israel? What is Israel doing to attempt to ameliorate the situation\, and what are some of the root causes of the violence that need to be addressed?  Please join us as we hear from Yaron Gamburg on these questions\, and more.\n\n\n\n\nYaron Gamburg is a career diplomat who joined the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1999. He assumed the position of counselor for Academic and Public Affairs in the Embassy of Israel to the USA as of August 2015.\n\nPrior to arriving in Washington\, Mr. Gamburg served as the Director of Diplomatic Strategy Department in the Policy Planning Division. In this capacity\, Gamburg was responsible for analytical study of new global agendas\, for identifying gaps in the existing policies and providing policy recommendations.  His overseas assignments include: spokesperson of the Embassy of Israel in Moscow\, Russia (2000-2003)\, Deputy Consul General in the Consulate of Israel in Los Angeles\, California (2005-2008) and  spokesperson and media advisor in the Embassy of Israel in Paris\, France (2010-2014).  When working in the Ministry’s HQ in Jerusalem\, Mr. Gamburg served in Eurasian Affairs Division\, as well as in the Public Diplomacy and Economic Affairs Division. He spent three years in the Training Department of the Ministry\, where he served as the Head of the Diplomatic Cadet Training Program and the Deputy Director of the Department responsible for new media training and other programs.\n\nBefore joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs\, Mr. Gamburg worked in the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption where he was responsible for diverse educational projects for students immigrating to Israel. For his military service\, Mr. Gamburg served in the Investigation department of the Military Police.  Mr. Gamburg was born in 1972\, in Zhytomir\, Ukraine\, and immigrated to Israel in 1990. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science and Master’s degree in Political Science from Hebrew University in Jerusalem.\nMr. Gamburg is married to Delphine\, who immigrated to Israel from France and also joined Foreign Ministry in 1998.  They have three children.

Indeed\, ISIS\, or the so called Islamic State\, is an offshoot of Saudi Wahhabism.  ISIS\, has brutally murdered thousands of innocent civilians\, and has extended its reach into Iraq\, Syria\, the Sinai Peninsula\, and Libya. More than 20\,000 foreigners have flocked to join the ranks of ISIS\, including thousands from the Western world.\n\nAnd as the US Congress prepares for a vote on the Iranian nuclear deal\, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism\, Iran\, continues to vow to defeat America\, the “Great Satan\,” and annihilate the State of Israel\, the “Little Satan.”\n\nA recent government report states that Iran spends billions of dollars to pay the salaries of terrorists fighting in the Middle East\, including Syria\, Yemen\, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.  Iran’s terrorist proxy Hezbollah has been responsible for the deaths of more Americans than other terrorist organization prior to 9/11. Iran continues to provide Hezbollah with $100-200 million per year\, a figure that will certainly increase with the current Iranian nuclear deal.\n\nWhat are the critical lessons that the U.S. should take from the 9/11 attacks? What should the United States do to safeguard our homeland and prevent future attacks on U.S. soil? And how can the U.S. limit the influence of Wahhabism and curb Iranian terrorism to protect not only our allies in the Middle East\, but the people of the United States of America?\n\nPlease join us as we explore these questions and more with national security experts\, while commemorating the lives of the nearly 3\,000 Americans taken 14 years ago.\n\n\nMichael P. Pregent is executive director of Veterans Against the Deal\, a new group formed to oppose the Iran deal.  Pregent served for 20 years in the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions as a Middle East intelligence officer\, and seven years in the Defense Intelligence Agency as an expert on Iranian influence in Iraq. Pregent has served in three wars: the first Gulf War\, Afghanistan\, and Iraq.  In 2001 Pregent was a counter-insurgency intelligence officer at CENTCOM. From 2002-2003 he was a company commander in Afghanistan. From 2005-2006\, he was embedded with the Peshmerga in Mosul\, Iraq. From 2007-2010 he was based at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad working on Iranian malign influence in Iraq for Generals Odierno and Petraeus\, and serving as an advisor to Iraq’s security and intelligence services. From 2011-2013 he was an extremism and foreign fighter analyst at CENTCOM.  Pregent holds a Masters in Strategic Public Relations from The George Washington University and is a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Defense Language Institute in Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian Dialect.  He has written for Foreign Affairs\, The Wall Street Journal\, Foreign Policy\, the Long War Journal\, Daily Beast\, CNN\, and Business Insider\, and has appeared on the BBC\, CNN\, and Fox News.\n\nThe Honorable Peter Hoekstra stands among the few former U.S. Congressmen with experience as a Fortune 500 business executive. Pete brings a unique blend of expertise and perspective to the intersection of global markets and public policy. His specialties include national security\, international relations\, countering global Islamist terror and cyber security. Pete is active in a number of areas. He serves as the Shillman Senior Fellow at the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT)\, the world’s most comprehensive data center on radical Islamist terror. Pete also serves on the Board of Directors of Gentex\, Inc. and West Michigan Community Bank\, as well as the Advisory Boards of Newsmax Media\, Inc. and TransCertain.  Pete served in Congress for 18 years\, representing Michigan’s Second Congressional District from 1993 to 2011. Prior to his election\, he worked for 15 years at office furniture manufacturer Herman Miller Inc.\, where he rose through the ranks to become Vice President of Marketing.  Congressional leadership appointed Pete as Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence from 2004 through January 2007\, and as the top Republican on the Committee until January 2011. He was responsible for leading Congressional oversight of U.S. Intelligence during its modernization to confront the threats of the 21st Century such as global Islamist terror and cyber warfare\, including restructuring the intelligence community with landmark legislation following the 9-11 Commission report.\n\nEmilio Dabul’s cultural background and life experience make him uniquely suited to be a commentator on Middle East issues and culture. He is of Syrian heritage on his father’s side\, English and Irish on his mother’s. His religious upbringing included the basic tenets of Islam as well as Christianity. This was the beginning of his journey into the varieties of religious and political experience\, which continues up to the present day. His wife\, who is Jewish\, has family in Israel and a cousin who is a female rabbi in Jerusalem. Across the border in Damascus\, Dabul has an uncle who was an assistant to the first President Assad.  Dabul’s opinion pieces have appeared in various national newspapers\, including the Wall Street Journal\, New York Post\, the New York Daily News\, and have confronted Islamist terrorists and addressed the need for true dialogue on a host of Middle East related issues. He runs his own PR firm and has media trained many clients as well as appeared many times himself on national radio and TV broadcasts.

SUMMARY:Amb. John Bolton on the Iranian Nuclear Negotiations
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, March 20th\, 2015\n11:30 AM-1:00 PM (Eastern Time)\nUS Capitol Visitor’s Center\nRoom SVC 212-10 \nLunch to be served (All dietary laws observed) \nRSVP to: dheffernan@emetonline.org \nRSVP REQUIRED \n(Entrance cannot be guaranteed without RSVP) \nIn January of 2014\, an interim deal was signed between the P5+1 nations and Iran. The results of the P5+1 talks have thus far failed to find a solution to the Iranian nuclear threat\, and negotiations have been extended twice\, with the next deadline at the end of this month.  The repeated extensions have enabled the Iranian Regime to receive billions in sanctions relief\, and continue building its nuclear program\, including its weakest parts – bomb technology and the ballistic missiles. Iran can still produce enough nuclear material to fuel a bomb in as little as two months\, reports show.  In addition to the frequent Iranian threats issued against the U.S.\, the Iranians are currently working on long-range ballistic missile systems that would only be necessary against Europe and the United States. \nWe are honored to hear from Ambassador John Bolton on the implications the Iranian nuclear negotiations have on U.S. national security and the security of our allies in the Middle East\, as Iran continues to build its nuclear arsenal and act aggressively in the region. \nAmbassador John Bolton was appointed as United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations on August 1\, 2005 and served until his resignation in December 2006. Prior to his appointment\, Bolton served as Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security from May 2001 to May 2005.  Throughout his distinguished career\, Bolton has been a staunch defender of American interests. While Under Secretary\, he repeatedly advocated tough measures against the nuclear weapons programs of both Iran and North Korea\, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction generally. He led negotiations for America to withdraw from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty so that the Bush Administration could proceed with a national missile-defense program.  During his tenure at the United Nations\, he was a leading voice on the need for the Security Council to take strong and meaningful action against international proliferation and terrorism. Along with France’s ambassador\, Bolton led the Security Council to approve a unanimous resolution to end the summer 2006 Hezbollah war on Israel\, to authorize U.N. peacekeepers and to create an arms embargo against Hezbollah. He also assembled an international coalition that blocked the bid of Hugo Chavez\, Venezuela’s Marxist strongman\, to join the Security Council.Bolton was also an advocate for human rights while serving at the UN. He arranged the Security Council’s first deliberations on Burma’s human rights abuses. He invited actor George Clooney and Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel to brief the Security Council in September 2006 on the Khartoum regime’s mass-murder of non-Arabs in Darfur\, Sudan. “Every day we delay only adds to the suffering of the Sudanese people and extends the genocide\,” Bolton said. He engineered the Security Council’s approval of 22\,500 U.N. peacekeepers in Darfur. Bolton worked to pressure Sudan’s government to accept these personnel atop the 7\,000 African Union soldiers already on site. Bolton has spent many years of his career in public service. Previous positions he has held include assistant secretary for International Organization Affairs at the Department of State\, 1989-1993; assistant attorney general\, Department of Justice\, 1985-1989; assistant administrator for Program and Policy Coordination\, U.S. Agency for International Development\, 1982-1983 and general counsel\, U.S. Agency for International Development\, 1981-1982. Bolton is also an attorney. Currently\, he is of counsel at Kirkland &am p; Ellis LLC with a focus on counseling clients on domestic and international issues in complex corporate\, litigation\, internal investigations\, regulatory and competition matters. From 1974-1981\, he was an associate at the Washington office of Covington & Burling\, where he returned as a partner in the firm from 1983-1985. Bolton is the author of Surrender is Not an Option: Defending America at the U.N. and Abroad\, published by Simon and Shuster(November 2007) and How Barack Obama is Endangering Our National Sovereignty\, published by Encounter Books (April 2010). Bolton currently serves as a foreign policy senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI)\, a contributor to FOX News Channel and his op-ed articles are regularly featured in The Wall Street Journal\, The New York Times and The Washington Times.   Bolton was born in Baltimore\, MD. He graduated with a B.A.\, summa cum laude\, Phi Beta Kappa\, from Yale University and received his J.D. in 1974. He currently resides in Maryland with his wife\, Gretchen. They have one daughter\, Jennifer Sarah\, who received her MBA and SM degrees from MIT in 2014 and currently works in manufacturing in Mississippi.

SUMMARY:"First Steps in Defeating Islamic Terror" with Dr. Mordechai Kedar
DESCRIPTION:RSVP to: dheffernan@emetonline.org\,\nPlease Include Subject Line: “Mordechai Kedar”\nFrom ISIS’s beheadings\, to the tragic terrorist attacks in Paris last month\, including the Charlie Hebdo shootings leaving 13 innocent dead\, and the slaughter of four Jews at a Kosher supermarket for the mere fact that they were Jewish\, the Western world has been left shocked by an enemy it does not know how to defeat. The Islamic State’s campaign of genocide and crimes against humanity has taken on a new level of horror with the recent murder of Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kassebeh\, who was burned alive by the radical Islamic terror group. The U.S.’s greatest ally in the Middle East\, the State of Israel\, was subject to Hamas’ launch of 4\,000 rockets into many of its major cities\, and the State has to fight terrorists\, including those from Hamas the Palestinian Authority and Hezbollah\, on a daily basis to protect its citizens. \nPlease join us as we hear insights from Dr. Mordechai Kedar on why Islamic terrorists are targeting the free world\, and what we need to know about the Muslim and Arab world to win the war on terror.  \nDr. Mordechai Kedar is an Israeli scholar of Arabic literature and a lecturer at Bar-Ilan University. He holds the Ph.D. from Bar-Ilan University.  Kedar is an academic expert on the Israeli Arab population. He served for twenty-five years in IDF Military Intelligence\, where he specialized in Islamic groups\, the political discourse of Arab countries\, the Arabic press and mass media\, and the Syrian domestic arena.  He is a highly published author who has consulted with both the United States Armed Forces as well as Israeli forces. The Los Angeles Times‘ Edmund Sanders described Dr. Kedar as “one of the few Arabic-speaking Israeli pundits seen on Arabic satellite channels defending Israel.”

SUMMARY:The Rise of Jihadist Attacks and the Fallacy of the "Lone Wolf" Terrorist
DESCRIPTION:Rayburn House Building \nRoom B-369 \nLunch to Be Served \n(Dietary Laws Observed) \nRSVP to: dheffernan@emetonline.org\,\nPlease Include Subject Line: “Patrick Poole” \nThis week’s tragic events in Paris have been a disturbing climax to a consistent trend of violent attacks from radical Islamic terrorists. Preceding the events in Paris was a string of violent actions in just the past few months which included the murder of a soldier in Canada\, the hostage situation in Australia\, and the beheading of a woman in Nebraska. The media and several counter-terror experts have since coined the term ‘lone wolf’ in reference to the supposed random and independent nature of these attacks. In October 2014\, Patrick Poole in turn coined the term ‘known wolf’ to describe these attackers\, pointing out the fact that many of them have been known by authorities to have ties to terror organizations and criminal behavior. Please join us as we host Mr. Poole for a seminar in which he explains why the perpetrators of these attacks are in fact ‘known wolves\,’ and why it is important to change the way in which we think about these kinds of perpetrators. \nPatrick Poole is a counter-terrorism and national security consultant. He is an internationally recognized subject matter expert on domestic terrorism and the global jihadist movement\, and he has been actively involved in and served as a consultant on numerous terrorism cases.  Mr. Poole regularly briefs members of Congress and congressional staff\, he has conducted lectures and training for numerous federal\, state and local law enforcement agencies\, and he has taught classes at the U.S. Army War College and the U.S. Air Force Staff and Command College. His peer-reviewed research articles have appeared in the Middle East Review of International Affairs\, the Journal of International Security Affairs and Middle East Quarterly. He also is a correspondent for PJMedia. A graduate of The Ohio State University\, Mr. Poole splits his time between Ohio and Washington D.C. \nStatement from Sarah Stern\, President of EMET: EMET expresses our deepest sympathies to the victims and their families of the Charlie Hebdo attack and the related Hypercacher attack.

SUMMARY:A Discussion on the Iranian Nuclear Threat
DESCRIPTION:Rayburn House Building \nRoom B369   \nLunch to Be Served \n(Dietary Laws Observed) \nRSVP to: dheffernan@emetonline.org\,\nPlease Include Subject Line: “Iran Seminar” \nFeaturing:\nDr. Michael Ledeen\, Manda Zand Ervin\, and Clare Lopez\nThe deadline for the Administration to strike a deal with the Iranian Regime on its nuclear development is quickly approaching.  In late October\, President Obama reportedly sent a secret letter to Iranian leader Ali Khamenei offering cooperation against ISIS if a nuclear deal is signed by Nov. 24th. Any treaty negotiated between the U.S. and Iran will inevitably have tremendous consequences for the U.S.\, and the world. If the Iranian regime produces nuclear weapons\, all other nations in the Middle East\, Europe\, and the U.S. may be in jeopardy.   \nSince the first extension of the deal in July\, the Iranian regime continued to develop ICBMs capable of carrying nuclear warheads; attacked a mock-up of a US aircraft carrier; failed to provide information regarding past possible military dimensions; missed deadlines to address five areas of concern outlined by the IAEA; and continued ferment aggression against the US. And Iran has reportedly been given access to at least $15B of frozen assets and up to $20B of sanctions relief since November 2013.\n\nWill the Iranians bargain for an extension of the current interim agreement to continue developing their nuclear warheads? Will Congress be able to use its lawful right to review any final agreement with Iran? And if the President strikes a deal with the brutal\, terror-sponsoring Regime\, what type of value will it have? Please join us as we discuss these questions and more with a panel of national security and Iranian experts.\n\nAbout the Speakers\n\nDr. Michael Ledeen is an internationally renowned scholar\, whose ideas and insights on the workings of the Iranian government have been a critical part of the policy discussion for decades. He is a highly regarded expert on Iran’s Green Movement and maintains close ties to opposition groups inside Iran. His scholarship on Iraq\, terrorism and international security have been sought after by those in and out of government and the intelligence community\, the media and policy influencers.  He is a contributor to The Hill and a contributing editor at National Review Online. Previously\, Dr. Ledeen served as a consultant to the National Security Council\, the State Department\, and the Defense Department.  He has also served as a special adviser to the Secretary of State. He holds a Ph.D. in modern European history and philosophy from the University of Wisconsin\, and has taught at Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Rome.  Dr. Ledeen is the author of more than 20 books. Dr. Ledeen regularly appears on cable news talk shows as well as a variety of talk radio programs as an expert contributor. He has a significant following on his blog\, “Faster Please!\,” hosted by PJMedia\, which supports Iran’s democracy movement.  In addition\, Dr. Ledeen also blogs at The Huffington Post.\n\n\nManda Zand Ervin came to United States as a political refugee on June 17th\, 1980\, became a citizen two years later\, and began her fight for human rights in Iran. She is the founder and president of the Alliance of Iranian Women\, a group which has deep connections within the Iranian diaspora and within Iran.  As the head of the Alliance of Iranian Women\, Mrs. Ervin works to bring the West’s attention to the plight of Iranian women under Islamic Sharia laws.  On September of 2009 she was invited to the G-8 International Conference on Violence Against Women\, at the Italian Foreign Ministry headquarters in Rome\, Italy\, where she was the featured speaker on Iran. She almost single-handedly gathered the support to pass a 2003 U.S. Senate Resolution on the human rights of the women of Iran. Mrs. Ervin is frequently consulted by Members of Congress considering resolutions and legislation on Iran policy and human rights.  She has testified at Congressional hearings and briefings\, the Helsinki Commission\, and spoke at the United Nations. In February of 2008\, Mrs. Ervin was appointed by the President of the United States as the United States’ Delegate to the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women. On December 10th\, 2013 she was invited to speak at the UN conference on Violence Against Women\, where Mrs. Banki Moon also spoke.  Mrs. Ervin writes and is published in online political magazines\, speaks on TV and radio programs\, nationally and internationally\, and at universities and conferences on American-Iranian relations\, among other topics.\n\nClare M. Lopez is a strategic policy and intelligence expert with a focus on Middle East\, national defense\, WMD\, and counterterrorism issues. Specific areas of expertise include Islam and Iran. Lopez began her career as an operations officer with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)\, serving domestically and abroad for 20 years in a variety of assignments\, and acquiring extensive expertise in counterintelligence\, counternarcotics\, and counterproliferation issues with a career regional focus on the former Soviet Union\, Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans. She has served in or visited over two dozen nations worldwide\, and speaks several languages\, including Spanish\, Bulgarian\, French\, German\, and Russian\, and currently is studying Farsi.  Now a private consultant\, Lopez also serves as Vice President of the non-profit forum\, The Intelligence Summit\, and is a Professor at the Centre for Counterintelligence and Security Studies (CI Centre)\, where she teaches courses on the Iranian Intelligence Services\, and the expanding influence of Jihad and Sharia in Europe and the U.S. She is affiliated on a consultant basis with DoD contractors that provide clandestine operations training to military intelligence personnel. Lopez was Executive Director of the Iran Policy Committee\, a Washington\, DC think tank\, from 2005-2006. SUMMARY:Israel: A Safe Haven for Christians in the Middle East\, Featuring Father Naddaf
DESCRIPTION:Hors d’oeuvres and Wine to Be Served \n(Dietary Laws Observed) \nRSVP to: dheffernan@emetonline.org\,\nPlease Include Subject Line: “Father Naddaf”\n \nThe Israel Forever Foundation and EMET are pleased to invite you to a discussion with Father Gabriel Naddaf from Israel\, and Congressman Doug Lamborn (R-CO)\, on the plight of Christians in the Middle East and the freedoms they enjoy in Israel. Thousands of Christians throughout the Middle East are persecuted\, slaughtered\, and raped on a daily basis\, because of their faith. Christians who refuse to convert to Islam are targets of radical Islamists and terrorists\, and have been robbed of their basic liberties and freedom of worship. Christian communities that have lived in parts of the Middle East and Central Africa in peace for decades are rapidly decreasing.  There is only one country in the Middle East where Christians are safe and have freedom of expression and worship – Israel. \n\nFather Gabriel Naddaf is the head of the Greek Orthodox Church in the town of Yafia\, near Nazareth in the North of Israel.  He also serves as the spiritual leader of the Israeli Christian Recruitment Forum\, a growing movement that empowers local Christians to volunteer for Israeli army service and fully integrate into mainstream Israeli society. Father Naddaf is a strong public voice of support for Israel and against the persecution of Christians in the Middle East. Father Naddaf’s activities have made him a controversial figure\, drawing criticism from Arab MKs as well as threats against his family and attacks on himself from extreme anti-Israel communities.  Last month Father Naddaf appeared before the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva to discuss the plight of Middle Eastern Christians.

Did you know that the U.S. has an anti-terrorism law that says that anywhere an American is murdered around the globe\, we have the right to bring that suspect to these shores to be charged\, prosecuted and punished? Did you know that we have a specific office in the Department of Justice whose primary function is to ensure that American families who have had loved ones who have been the victims of terrorism overseas obtain the swift justice they deserve? Did you know that at least 58 Americans have been killed since the signing of the Oslo Accords by Palestinian terrorists and that none of these terrorists have been brought to justice on our shores? \nPlease join us for a special briefing as we hear from family members of American victims of Palestinian terrorism\, currently living in Israel. \nBackground:\n\nThe Koby Mandell Act\, signed into law in December 2004\, created the Office of Justice for Victims of Overseas Terrorism (OJVOT) within the Department of Justice (DOJ). The responsibility of the office is to ensure that all US citizens harmed overseas receive equal treatment by the US government\, regardless of the terrorists’ country of origin\, and to ensure that all terrorists involved in such attacks are pursued and prosecuted; however the Justice Department sorely violated its legislative intent.\n\nUpon the opening of the office in the Justice Department in May 2005\, then-Attorney-General Alberto Gonzales stated that “this new office guarantees a voice for victims and their families in the investigation and prosecution of terrorists who prey on Americans overseas.” Gonzales added that “our commitment to these victims is as strong as our dedication to bringing those terrorist attackers to justice.”\n\nHowever\, since the signing of the Oslo Accords\, there have more than 71 cases of Palestinian terrorist attacks resulting in American casualties in and around Israel. The number of American victims of attacks in Israel stands at more than 58 killed and 83 wounded. American law gives the DOJ the legal tools to prosecute these terrorists with the Anti-Terrorism Act passed in 1990\, which requires the prosecution and punishment\, in US courts\, of individuals who murder or maim American citizens in acts of international terrorism\, and the Koby Mandell Act. Yet the DOJ never indicted\, extradited\, or prosecuted a single Palestinian terrorist who has harmed an American within Israel or the Palestinian territories.\n\nAbout the Speakers:\n\n\nSherri Mandell \nSherri Mandell founded the Koby Mandell Foundation which runs programs for bereaved families in Israel\, along with her husband\, Rabbi Seth Mandell.  Sherri Mandell’s book\, “The Blessing of a Broken Heart\,” won a National Jewish Book Award in 2004. Mandell’s son\, Koby Mandell\, was a U.S. citizen brutally murdered at age 13 by Palestinian terrorists near his home in May\, 2001. Sherri Mandell was born in New York and writes for numerous magazines and journals\, including The Washington Post\, The Denver Post\, The Jerusalem Post\, The Times of Israel\, as well as Hadassah Magazine.\n\nDr. Alan Bauer\nDr. Alan Bauer\, an American citizen living in Israel\, and his young son were seriously injured in 2002 by a Palestinian suicide bomber in Jerusalem. Bauer and his son Jonathan were walking on King George Street in downtown Jerusalem on March 21\, 2002\, when a terrorist from Arafat’s Fatah movement blew himself up. His explosive device was packed with metal spikes and nails\, in order to inflict the maximum amount of pain and destruction and the defenseless Israeli civilians walking by. Three passersby were killed\, 87 were wounded. Dr. Bauer and Jonathan were hit by multiple metal projectiles. Two of the metal spikes penetrated little Jonathan’s brain. Dr. Alan Bauer\, a Harvard educated biologist\, has been seeking justice ever since the attack.\n\nSarah Stern\nSarah Stern\, the founder and president of the Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET). EMET educates members of Congress and their staffers through monthly seminars about the Middle East. Sarah has more than 30 years of experience on Capitol Hill\, and has helped to draft and pass many pieces of legislation\, speeches and congressional resolution including the Koby Mandell Act which resulted in the opening of an office in the Department of Justice entitled the Office for Justice of Victims of Overseas Terrorism which is supposed to be an advocacy group within the Department of Justice for Americans who have been killed and wounded abroad; the Syria Accountability Act; and a Resolution in support of Israel’s right to build a security fence and defend her citizens the way they deem appropriate. Her work has appeared in The New Republic\, The Middle East Quarterly\, Israel Today\, Frontpagemag.com; Breitbart\, InFocus\, The American Thinker\, The Jerusalem Post and the Washington Jewish Week. She has appeared on television and radio\, and has spoken throughout the country\, in Israel and on Al Hurrah which is carried throughout the Middle East\, on The Middle East\, terrorism\, Post Zionism\, Israel\, and related issues.

SUMMARY:UNRWA-Part of the Problem or the Solution? with David Bedein
DESCRIPTION:To watch the recording of this event\, please click here. \nThe United nations Relief and works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)\, created nearly 65 years ago\, is one of the largest programs of the United Nations. Unfortunately\, it appears that the work of UNRWA has become highly politicized during the past few decades; UNRWA contributes to the spread of anti-Israel propaganda and hate among Palestinians. There are UNRWA-controlled schools and summer camps where Palestinian children receive military training\, are taught to praise suicide bombers\, and learn the value of “jihad.” UNRWA camps in countries including Lebanon\, Syria\, Jordan\, and the West Bank and Gaza have served as recruitment ground for new terrorists as well. Yet the Agency has taken very few steps\, if any at all\, to end the spread of hate and even prevent members of terrorist organizations from joining its staff. EMET is proud to bring David Bedein\, Bureau of Chief of the Israel Resource News Agency\, to shed light on this very important issue\, and expose what really goes on in UNRWA facilities. David Bedein\, who grew up on Philadelphia and moved to Israel in 1970 at the age of 20\, is an MSW community organizer by profession and an experienced investigative journalist. In 1987 he established the Israel Resource News Agency\, with offices at the Beit Agron Int’l Press Center in Jerusalem\, where he also serves as Director of the Center for Near East Policy Research. In 1991\, Bedein was the special CNN Middle East radio correspondent. Since 2001\, Bedein has contributed features to the newspaper Makor Rishon. In 2006\, Bedein became the foreign correspondent for the Philadelphia Bulletin\, writing 1\,062 articles until the newspaper ceased operation in 2010 He is the author of “Where Has ALl The Flour Gone: The Whims And Waste Of UNRWA Arab Refugee Policy\,” and the director and producer of the movie\, “Palestinian Refugee Policy: From Despair to Hope.”

DESCRIPTION:To watch the recording of this event\, please click here. \nLunch to Be Served\n(Dietary Laws Observed) \nRSVP to: dheffernan@emetonline.org\,\nPlease Include Subject Line: “Cal Thomas Event” \nWhy is it that\, despite repeated failures\, U.S. foreign policy continues to be mired in the same mistaken assumptions? Whether its trusting dictators to bind themselves to signed treaties\, remaining slavishly devoted to failed paradigms regarding the importance of the “peace process\,” or the wisdom of disarmament in the face of aggression\, it seems that Washington routinely fails to learn the lessons of history. \nEMET is proud to bring 2008 Speaker of the Truth Award recipient Cal Thomas to Capitol Hill to discuss his new book\, “What Works: Common Sense Solutions for a Stronger America”. Subtitled “It’s Groundhog’s Day In Washington\,” Cal examines why failed policies and mistaken assumptions continuely rear their head in government\, even when an objective examination reveals their flaws. \nCal Thomas is one of the most popular syndicated columnists in the country\, appearing in hundreds of newspapers. He also writes the Common Ground column (with his liberal Democrat friend Bob Beckel) and regularly appears on Fox News. He began his career in radio\, TV\, and print at the age of sixteen. 2014 marks the thirtieth anniversary of his syndicated column. \nDIRECTIONS: The main entrance to the Capitol Visitor Center is located on First Street between Independence Avenue and Constitution Avenue\, across the street from the U.S. Supreme Court\, down the stairs. \nClosest metro station: Capitol South (orange/blue line) OR Union Station (red line)\nClosest public parking: Union Station OR any available metered spots on the Hill. \nSecurity: PLEASE NOTE you will have to go through security to enter the premises. SUMMARY:A Luncheon Seminar on: "The Myth of the Palestinian Demographic Crisis" and "What to Do About an Iranian Nuclear Bomb?"
DESCRIPTION:President Barack Obama recently spoke with the Atlantic’s Jeffery Goldberg in wide ranging interview covering a number of Middle East topics. Among them\, President Obama referred to a “change in demographics” as part of the “closing window” for the Israelis to make peace with their Palestinian neighbors. Certainly the President is not the first to trot out reports that Israel faces threats to either the Jewish or the democratic nature of its state if it does not relinquish control over Judea and Samaria to the Palestinians. But how accurate are such claims? \nAmbassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger will address those statements with a concise and factual examination of what the real demographics of the region actually suggest. \nAdditionally\, Amb. Ettinger will discuss the threat posed by an Iranian nuclear bomb. Is there still a credible “military option” as President Obama indicated in his interview with Goldberg? With the current administration fixated on diplomacy with an interim agreement that many experts believe has left Iran “open for business” and its nuclear program still churning\, will Israel have to “go it alone?” If so what kind of assistance will it need from the United States\, and from Pro-Israel Americans? \nMarch 25th\, 2014\n12 Noon- 2:00 PM (Eastern Time) \nLunch to be Served (Dietary Laws Observed)\nRSVP: To info@emetonline.org\,\nSubject Line: “March 25th Ettinger Event” \nFeaturing: Ambassador Yoram Ettinger \nAmbassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger\, is an insider on US-Israel relations\, Mideast politics and overseas investments in Israel’s high tech.  He is a member of the American-Israel Demographic Research Group (AIDRG)\, which has documented dramatic flaws behind demographic fatalism on one hand and a Jewish demographic momentum on the other hand. He serves as a consultant to members of Israel’s Cabinet and Knesset\, and regularly briefs US legislators and their staff on Israel’s contribution to vital US interests\, on the root causes of international terrorism and on other issues of bilateral concern. Ambassador (ret.) Ettinger served as Minister for Congressional Affairs at Israel’s Embassy in Washington (with a rank of an ambassador)\, Israel’s Consul General in Houston and Director of Israel’s Government Press Office.

SUMMARY:Politicizing Education: Title VI of the Higher Education Act
DESCRIPTION:The original legislative intent of Title VI of the Higher Education Act (HEA) was to establish foreign language and area studies programs at our college campuses in order to develop graduates with the expertise to meet the national security needs of our nation. Unfortunately Title VI has been turned on its head; and instead the funds allocated for it are used to advance highly politicized educational programs at universities across the country.  A significant number of Title VI National Resource Centers feature professors that are apologetic for radical Islam and terrorism\, and promote an anti-American and anti-Israel agenda.  In 2003\, the U.S. House of Representatives conducted a hearing to “examine questions of bias in international and foreign language programs.” The HEA was reauthorized as the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) in 2008\, with several amendments to Title VI\, including that activities funded by Title VI grants “will reflect diverse perspectives and a wide range of views\,” but the new law neglected to include measures for oversight\, grievance procedures\, and accountability. \nTitle VI enables professors particularly belonging to Middle East Centers at universities across the country\, including many Ivy League schools\, to promote their personal agendas while excluding scholars with other perspectives and stifling academic debate. These centers are also required to conduct “public outreach\,” directed to students on campuses and the general public\, including training K-12 teachers on the Middle East.  A variety of Saudi-funded foundations have directed millions of dollars to the centers as well as created the curricula used for K-12 education.  Under Title VI\, our U.S. tax payer dollars are providing our children\, teenagers\, and young adults with education that promotes Islam\, frowns on Judaism and Christianity\, and in many cases\, is anti-American and anti-Semitic. \nCampuses across the U.S. have recently witnessed “Israeli Apartheid Week\,” a series of events that seek to delegitimize Israel and disseminate lies about the State\, such as by making the absurd comparison between a vibrant democracy that has to protect its civilian population from being blown up by terrorists and a society based on racial discrimination and prejudice.  Events of Israeli Apartheid Week also aim to support the BDS (Boycott\, Divestment and Sanctions) movement – supported by some professors at the federally funded Middle Eastern Studies Center—and often containing anti-Semitic messages. \n  \nFeaturing: \nSarah Stern is the founder and president of EMET\, a pro-Israel and pro-American think tank in Washington\, DC.  Sarah’s work resulted in the establishment in the Department of Justice the Office for Victims of Overseas Terrorism to ensure equal justice under the law for American victims of Palestinian terrorism\, the passage of the Syrian Accountability Act\, the passage of a resolution in defense of Israel’s right to build a security fence\, and the passage of the HEOA in 2008\, calling for a more balanced curriculum in Middle Eastern Studies Departments throughout America. She regularly appears in radio and TV media.  Sarah has written numerous articles published in several journals including The New Republic\, Israel Today\, Frontpage Magazine\, Breitbart\, American Thinker\, In Focus\, The Jerusalem Post and is the author of Saudi Arabia and the Global Islamic Terrorist Network and the novel\, “Cherished Illusions.” \nStanley Kurtz is a Senior Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. Kurtz has helped lead the campaign to reform federal subsidies to academic programs of “area studies” under Title VI of the Higher Education Act\, and testified before the House of Representatives on the issue in 2003.  Kurtz is a contributing editor to National Review Online\, and published two influential books on President Obama’s political history and policy agenda: Radical-in-Chief: Barack Obama and the Untold Story of American Socialism (Threshold) and Spreading the Wealth: How Obama is Robbing the Suburbs to Pay for the Cities (Sentinel).  Kurtz received his undergraduate degree from Haverford College and his Ph.D. in social anthropology from Harvard University. He later taught at Harvard\, winning several teaching awards for his work in a Great Books Program. He was also Dewey Prize Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Chicago. \nKenneth L. Marcus is President and General Counsel of the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law and author of the award-winning Jewish Identity and Civil Rights in America (New York: Cambridge University Press: 2010).  Marcus founded the Brandeis Center in 2011 to combat the resurgence of anti-Semitism in American higher education. During his public service career\, Marcus served as Staff Director at the United States Commission on Civil Rights and was delegated the authority of Assistant Secretary of Education for Civil Rights and Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity.  For his work in government\, Marcus was named the first recipient of the Justice and Ethics Award for Outstanding Work in the Field of Civil Rights.  Before entering public service\, Mr. Marcus was a litigation partner in two major law firms\, where he conducted complex commercial and constitutional litigation. \nWinfield Myers is Director of Academic Affairs for the Middle East Forum (MEF). Before joining MEF\, he was managing editor of The American Enterprise magazine\, a publication of the American Enterprise Institute in Washington\, D.C. The co-founder and former CEO of Democracy Project\, Inc.\, he earlier served as senior editor and communications director at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute. He has longstanding interests in higher education\, American politics and culture\, and foreign policy. Principal author and editor of a college guide\, Choosing the Right College\, with an introduction by William Bennett (Eerdmans\, 1998; 2001)\, Myers is also founding editor of the ISI Study Guides to the Liberal Arts. He was formerly senior editor of the Intercollegiate Review and Campus Magazine and is author of a widely distributed pamphlet\, “Asking the Right Questions in Choosing a College.”  Myers’s writings have appeared in the Wall Street Journal\, National Review Online\, the Weekly Standard\, and the Washington Times\, among other publications.

SUMMARY:The Global Reach of Hezbollah
DESCRIPTION:Even while much of the world’s attention has been focused on the threat posed by Iran’s efforts to develop nuclear weapons\, Iran’s earliest\, and most successful efforts to target its western enemies has been primarily through the use of its chief proxy Hezbollah. While Hezbollah routinely makes news due to its involvement in the Syrian civil war and the threat its Lebanese-based missile arsenal poses to Israel\, Hezbollah was formed to serve as a terrorist action arm of Iran’s global Islamic revolution\, prior to the September 11th attacks\, was responsible for the greatest loss of American life due to terrorism. EMET is pleased to bring counterterrorism expert Matthew Levitt to discuss the global reach and threat posed by Hezbollah\, “The Party of God.” \nFeatured Speaker: \nMatthew Levitt is the Fromer-Wexler fellow and director of The Washington Institute’s Stein Program on Counterterrorism and Intelligence. From 2005 to early 2007\, he served as deputy assistant secretary for intelligence and analysis at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In that capacity\, he served both as a senior official within the department’s terrorism and financial intelligence branch and as deputy chief of the Office of Intelligence and Analysis\, one of sixteen U.S. intelligence agencies coordinated under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. During his tenure at Treasury\, Dr. Levitt played a central role in efforts to protect the U.S. financial system from abuse and to deny terrorists\, weapons proliferators\, and other rogue actors the ability to finance threats to U.S. national security. In 2008-2009\, he served as a State Department counterterrorism advisor to the special envoy for Middle East regional security (SEMERS)\, General James L. Jones.\nFrom 2001 to 2005\, Dr. Levitt served the Institute as founding director of its Terrorism Research Program (now renamed as above)\, which was established in the wake of the September 11 attacks. Previously\, he served as a counterterrorism intelligence analyst at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)\, where he provided tactical and strategic analytical support for counterterrorism operations\, focusing on fundraising and logistical support networks for Middle Eastern terrorist groups. During his FBI service\, Dr. Levitt participated as a team member in a number of crisis situations\, including the terrorist threat surrounding the turn of the millennium and the September 11 attacks. He has earned numerous awards and commendations for his government service at both the FBI and the Treasury Department.\nDr. Levitt holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Yeshiva University\, as well as a master’s degree in law and diplomacy and a doctorate from Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He was a graduate research fellow at Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation and has taught at both Johns Hopkins University’s Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies and Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences.\nDr. Levitt has served as an expert witness in several criminal and civil cases\, lectured on international terrorism on behalf of the Departments of State\, Justice\, Defense\, and Homeland Security\, consulted for various U.S. government agencies and private industry\, and testified before the Senate and House on matters relating to international terrorism. He has held fellowships with the Combating Terrorism Center (CTC) at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the Homeland Security Policy Institute at the George Washington University\, is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations\, and serves as a member of the international advisory board for both the Institute for Counter-Terrorism in Israel and the International Centre for Political Violence & Terrorism Research in Singapore.\nDr. Levitt has written extensively on terrorism\, countering violent extremism\, illicit finance and sanctions\, the Middle East\, and Arab-Israeli peace negotiations\, with articles appearing in peer-reviewed journals\, policy magazines\, and the press\, including the Wall Street Journal\, Washington Post\, Foreign Affairs\, Foreign Policy\, and numerous other publications. He is also a frequent guest on the national and international media\, and the author of several books and monographs\, including Hamas: Politics\, Charity and Terrorism in the Service of Jihad (Yale University Press\, 2006)\, Negotiating Under Fire: Preserving Peace Talks in the Face of Terror Attacks (Rowman & Littlefield\, 2008)\, and Hezbollah: The Global Footprint of Lebanon’s Party of God (Georgetown University Press\, 2013).

SUMMARY:EMET and the Center for Security Policy Invite you to attend a symposium: What are Iran's True Intentions?
DESCRIPTION:As the Obama Administration continues to move forward negotiating with Iran\, there has been little attention paid to the underlying motivations of the Islamic Republic of Iran. What is the Iranian end game? What are the ideological motivators of the Islamic regime in its conflict with the United States of America and Israel? Are the genocidal threats issued by Iranian leaders to”wipe Israel off the map” and achieve a “world without America” only posturing? Or are these goals the Iranian regime is committed to achieving? \nEMET and the Center for Security Policy have put together a great panel of experts to address these questions and answer\, what are Iran’s true intentions? \nFeaturing: \nDr. Walid Phares serves as an Advisor to the Anti-Terrorism Caucus in the US House of Representatives and is a Co-Secretary General of the Transatlantic Legislative Group on Counter Terrorism\, a Euro-American Caucus\, since 2009. Viewing the 3D Israel map one can easily and quickly be informed of many of the underlying resource and security issues involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict such as West Bank water resources and Israeli ‘defensible’ borders. Over the past 20 years\, Mark has briefed many Congressional and Senate offices\, the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Israel Desk\, and the New York Times Editorial Board. Mark wrote and published seminal articles concerning the Israeli/Middle East region including the 1992 “Demilitarization Risks” warning of future Palestinian Katyusha rocket barrages from vacated Israeli territory\, the 1995 “US Troops on Golan Quicksand”  warning of the unique topographic dangers of deploying US Troops to the Golan Heights\, and the 2006 “Iran: The 4th Reichastan” exposing the Iranian arming of Iraqi Insurgents against US forces\, and of Iran’s other regional and strategic goals.\, Mark has published numerous articles in newspapers and security journals including the Jerusalem Post\, JINSA Security Affairs\, PRAVDA\, and Arutz Sheva.  (For more information visit www.marklangfan.com.) \nDr. Andrew Bostom is the editor of the highly acclaimed The Legacy of Jihad: Islamic Holy War and the Fate of Non-Muslims\, and of The Legacy of Islamic Antisemitism: from Sacred Text to Solemn History\, and author of Sharia Versus Freedom: The Legacy of Islamic of Islamic Totalitarianism and the recent monograph The Mufti’s Islamic Jew-Hatred. SUMMARY:Syria: A Third Way Out?
DESCRIPTION:With:  Dr. Mordechai Kedar and Dr. Walid Phares \nCivil war continues to rage in Syria\, with approximately 115\,000 people killed and another 2 million refugees forced to flee. On the one side is the Assad regime\, backed by the terrorist organization Hezbollah\, and Iranian forces\, especially the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps\, and supported by Russia.  The opposition\, on the other hand\, consists of a disparite collection of rebel groups\, including some secular forces but also large and growing numbers of jihadist groups\, including two Al Qaeda affiliates\, Al Qaeda in Iraq\, and Jabhat Al-Nusra\, and Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist-associated groups and receives arms and funds from the Gulf States\, most especially Saudi Arabia and Qatar. \nThis combination of opponents has made formulating a coherent policy difficult for the United States. While the U.S. has formally announced that Assad must go\, its efforts to coordinate with Gulf allies on supporting the rebels has seen numerous failures\, and met much resistance from both American legislators and an American public deeply concerned with the spread of Al Qaeda in Syria. \nThe question which EMET’s panel of experts will attempt to answer is\, “Is there a third way forward in Syria?” Can Assad be ousted\, handing a major defeat to the Islamic Republic of Iran\, while not turning over control of Syria to the Global Jihad? \nTo speak on these topics\, EMET is proud to host two great Middle East Specialists\, Dr. Mordechai Kedar\, and Dr. Walid Phares. Panelists will also weigh in on recent Iranian nuclear negotiations\, and how Syria\, Hezbollah and nuclear weapons factor into Iran’s strategic view. \nDr. Mordechai Kedar\, is a professor of Arabic for Bar Ilan University\, Director of the Center for the Study of the Middle East and Islam\, and a specialist in Islam\, Islamic Movements\, gender issues in Islam\, Arabic Mass Media\, popular culture in the Arab world\, and the state and society in the Arab World. Dr. Kedar served as a Lieutenant Colonel with IDF Military Intelligence. He serves as a weekly columnist for the Israeli newspapers Makor Rishon and Yom le-Yom. He is the author of numerous works on Syria\, Islam and the Middle East\, including: Assad In Search of Legitimacy: Messages and Rhetoric in the Syrian Press under Hafiz and Bashar (2005)\, and Clash of Values: Gender and Family Issues as Sources of Tension between Islam and the West (2007). \nDr. Walid Phares\, serves as an Advisor to the Anti-Terrorism Caucus in the US House of Representatives and is a Co-Secretary General of the Transatlantic Legislative Group on Counter Terrorism\, a Euro-American Caucus\, since 2009. Dr Phares briefs and testify to the US Congress\, the European Parliament and the United Nations Security Council on matters related to international security and Middle East conflict.  He has served on the Advisory Board of the Task Force on Future Terrorism of the Department of Homeland Security and the Advisory Task force on Nuclear Terrorism. SUMMARY:“What Has Gone Wrong With American Mideast Policy?”
DESCRIPTION:EMET Invites You to Attend Our Annual 9/11 Memorial Seminar featuring: Debra Burlingame\, Stephen Coughlin and Kyle Shideler \n  \nTwelve years after the horrific events of 9/11\, and the United State appears no closer to understanding the forces that attacked us that fateful day. Our failure to understand the ideology of the enemy has translated directly into American policy failures throughout the Middle East\, including in Egypt\, Libya\, and most recently Syria. Opinion polls likewise reflect a lack of trust by Americans in the ability of their government to make competent strategic choices regarding the region\, such as their ability to vet the intentions of Syrians rebels\, many of whom are allied with Al Qaeda.  What has happened to American foreign policy that we have reached this perilous position? After more than a decade involved in a “War Against Terror” are we any closer to victory? Are we safer? \n  \nEMET’s panel will examine the events in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and the war on terror\, and attempt to explain how we reached this position\, and where we go from here. \n  \nFeaturing: \n  \nDebra Burlingame is the co-founder of 9/11 Families for a Safe and Strong America and a director of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum Foundation at the World Trade Center. She has published articles for the Wall Street Journal and other publications on national security issues\, and has testified before the Senate and the House of Representatives on terrorism-related issues. \n  \nStephen Coughlin is a recognized expert on Shariah law and how it serves as the threat doctrine for our enemies. As a former military intelligence official\, Stephen has provided briefs on the Shariah threat at the highest levels of the government. He is the author of the soon to be released book\, “Catastrophic Failure: Blindfolding America In the Face of Jihad” (Center for Security Policy Press). \n  \nKyle Shideler is the Director of Research and Communications at the Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET). He is a contributing author of “Saudi Arabia and the Global Islamic Terrorist Network: America and the West’s Fatal Embrace” and has written for numerous online publications. He has also appeared as a commentator on talk radio discussing national security and terrorism issues.

SUMMARY:“Who is the Real Rouhani?”
DESCRIPTION:A briefing featuring: Ambassador John Bolton and Dr. Michael Ledeen \nWhile violence and chaos in Egypt and Syria has drawn much of the media attention in recent months\, the Iranian regime continues to advance inexorably closer towards possessing a nuclear weapons arsenal\, an existential threat to the state of Israel\, national security of the United States and the Middle East region. \n  \nWith the election of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani\, some suggest that there is now time to once again attempt to dissuade Iran from its path. How should the United States and the West deal with this new Iranian leader? \n  \nAmbassador John Bolton and Dr. Michael Ledeen will address these and other issues related to the recent Iranian elections\, and their insight into what sort of leader President Hassan Rouhani is likely to be\, and how his election will impact Iran’s interactions with the United States and the West. \n  \nAmbassador John R.
