EMET Announces Support for the Proposed U.S.-Israel Trade and Commercial Enhancement Act by Representatives
Peter Roskam (R-IL) and Juan Vargas (D-CA)

(February 17, 2015, Washington, D.C.) Today, the Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET) came out in support of a recently proposed bipartisan bill that will seek to counter the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement which threatens the economic stability of Israel, our strongest ally in the Middle East.

Unfortunately, a number of U.S. allies, particularly in Europe, are abusing commercial relations with Israel for political purposes, seeking to delegitimize and isolate our ally. The BDS movement is highly discriminatory and attempts to attack Israel economically for no other reason but to dismantle the country as a whole. Moreover, the BDS movement does nothing to help advance a cause or seek peace in the region—it simply is a politically charged, hateful attempt to degrade the State of Israel. The tactics employed by the BDS movement simply seek to destroy and cause harm; they have no place in the global free market.
“BDS is a movement that aims to demonize the State of Israel, our greatest ally in the Middle East. The Israeli economy is the lifeblood of the State and an attack on Israel economically threatens Israeli national security and the very existence of the State itself,” Sarah Stern, Founder and President of EMET said.  “BDS supporters are aware of this, and they seek only to destroy,” added Stern.
The BDS movement not only threatens the economic integrity of Israel, it is also dangerous to United States interests. U.S.-Israeli trade accounts for tens of billions of dollars added to the U.S. economy annually. The U.S.-Israel Trade and Commercial Enhancement Act will combat efforts to limit commercial relations with Israel through BDS and strengthen the mutually beneficial economic relationship between the two countries. EMET commends Reps. Roskam and Vargas for their willingness to address this issue through this excellent piece of legislation.
