Syria

About this Issue

The nation of Syria, led by Bashar Assad, is a rogue terror supporting ally of Iran. Since 2011, Syria has had a protracted civil war, most of whose participants were some form of Islamists, be it Shia terrorists sponsored by Iran, or Sunni terrorists sponsored by the Islamic State or al-Qaeda, all of whom hate and seek to destroy the U.S. and Israel. The only real moderate force in Syria have been the Syrian Democratic Forces, led by Syrian Kurds, with whom the U.S. has been allied with. This civil war in Syria has forced millions of people to flee their homeland, to other nations in the Middle East, or in Europe, thereby contributing to instability throughout the world. EMET educates Congress about the many dangers coming from Syria, and the increasing human rights tragedy that is unfolding in that nation.
