Press Release: EMET Congratulates Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his Victory in the Israeli Elections
(Washington, DC, March 18, 2015) The Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET) congratulates Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his victory in yesterday’s democratic elections.

After coming under fire from the Obama administration and its allies in Congress for speaking to Congress about the dangerous deal taking shape with Iran, the Prime Minister survived the administration’s best efforts to oust him. In an act of outrageous interference, the State Department expended U.S. tax-payer funds to subsidize the OneVoice Movement, which undertook a grassroots campaign to undermine Netanyahu’s policies.  And several Obama campaign veterans – most notably, 2012 national field director Jeremy Bird – relocated to Israel to help organize the opposition and spearhead its messaging.

EMET applauds Israel’s vibrant democracy.  Nearly a quarter of Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, will be comprised of women, and nearly 15% will be Israeli-Arabs. Let yesterday’s vote be a template for Israel’s Arab neighbors.  A veteran Palestinian journalist in Ramallah remarked, “We say all these bad things about Israel, but at least [Israelis] have the right to vote and enjoy democracy. We envy the Israelis. Our leaders don’t want elections.”

“The people of Israel spoke loudly and clearly,” said EMET founder and President Sarah Stern. “They are proud to have a leader with the strength to confront the many existential challenges Israel faces today, including the threat of a nuclear Iran and terrorist organizations such as the Islamic State, which is gaining a foothold along the Golan Heights and even in Judea and Samaria.  Israel demonstrated once again that it is a robust, independent democracy that best knows its own interests. The West should be grateful to the people of Israel for electing a government that will continue to serve as an Eastern outpost of our Western democratic values and as a reliable, stable source of intelligence-sharing and strategic cooperation,” Stern added.
