ACTION ALERT: Call Your Senators now to ensure fair treatment of Israeli goods and rescind invidious labeling requirements by the Obama Administration

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AZ) introduced a bill, S. 2474, to rescind the Obama administration’s policy directive made on January 23rd requiring the US Customs and Border Protection Agency to label Israeli goods produced in Judea and Samaria and the Gaza Strip.

The Administration’s directive inevitably will lead to isolating the Jewish State and supports the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. The new directive revives a 1995 labeling rule that has rarely been enforced, and follows the European Union’s decision to isolate the Jewish State in November 2015 by requiring special labeling for products produced in the disputed territories.

For decades, it has been the policy of the United States to oppose economic boycotts by other countries against Israel. In the 1970’s, the U.S. Congress enacted legislation making it illegal for a U.S. company to comply with the Arab League boycott of Israel. In 2015, Congress has passed Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation requiring the U.S. to discourage Europe from enacting any politically motivated policies that would boycott, divest from, or sanction Israel when negotiating the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.

Call your Senators TODAY and ask them to COSPONSOR S.2474, the “Fair Treatment of Israel in Product Labeling Act of 2016.”
