FEATURING:
Sam Westrop – Director of the Islamist Project of the Middle East Forum
About this webinar: Qatar, a gas and petroleum rich nation on a peninsula in the Persian Gulf has recently put in a request to purchase American made F-35 missiles. For the last several years, this nation that supports the Muslim Brotherhood has also been showering billions of dollars of its vast wealth on our universities, our kindergarten through 12th grade education system, and recently even on NASA and the Smithsonian. Their largess to American institutions has even surpassed that of Saudi Arabia.
What are Qatar’s overall objectives here? What American Islamist institutions have they also supported? What is its objective in their America influence operations? Why are they bestowing so much of its wealth, here in the United States? And why are the recipients of this wealth so eager to turn a blind eye on Qatar’s support for HAMAS, Al Qaeda, Jabat al Nusra and ISIS, as well as its troubling relationship with Iran, while receiving their largess?
Sam Westrop has headed Islamist Watch since March 2017, when MEF absorbed the counter-extremism unit of Americans for Peace and Tolerance (APT). Prior to this he was research director at APT, and ran Stand for Peace, a London-based counter-extremism organization monitoring Islamists throughout the UK. Mr. Westrop is a senior fellow at the Gatestone Institute. His writings have appeared at such publications as National Review, National Post, and The Hill, and he has appeared on dozens of television and radio stations, including BBC, Al Jazeera, and Newsmax.
