EMET Thanks Senator Tom Cotton, Representative Chip Roy and Representative Brian Mast for the Introduction of Legislation Seeking to Sanction the International Criminal Court

(June 18, 2024, Washington, DC) EMET expresses its profound gratitude for the introduction of S4484 in the Senate and HR 8282 in the House, legislation that paves the way for sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC is yet another example of an international institution suffering from the rot of anti-Israeli hatred. Should it go unpunished, we risk allowing the court’s demonization of Israel to become legitimized and de facto sanctioned by the U.S. government. This would be a dangerous precedent, not only for Israel, but for the United States, whose military personnel could become targets of the corrupted court for serving their country in Afghanistan, or elsewhere around the world.

The ICC’s case against Israel was purely political and biased from the beginning. In fact, two of the lawyers who helped build the case, Abdelmajid Mrari and Khaled Al Shouli, have made statements justifying the Oct. 7th massacre and supporting Hamas. Al Shouli recently had his assets frozen for six months by French authorities.

By sanctioning and revoking the visas for those involved in prosecuting U.S., Israeli, or any other allied citizens wrongfully targeted by the ICC, the United States could loudly and clearly stand up to this travesty of justice.  The bill has already passed in the House and garnered 12 cosponsors in the Senate. EMET sincerely hopes that Majority Leader Senator Charles Schumer will see fit to support this reasonable and fair legislation that is in both the U.S. and Israel’s national interests. If the court is not stopped, we know that members of the US military will be next on the docket of prosecution by the ICC.
