With increasing threats coming from the Iranian dictatorship, there is great potential for another bloody crackdown against Iranian civilians, similar to what occurred in 2009. The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was recently quoted as saying, “In recent days, enemies of Iran used different tools including cash, weapons, politics and intelligence apparatus to create troubles for the Islamic Republic.”
US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, came out in support of the Iranian protestors, and called for the UN to “speak out,” and for the United Nations Security Council to hold an emergency session on the protests.
To explore the 2017-2018 Iranian protests, and the response of the US, the Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET) has convened an all-star panel of Iran experts: Ambassador John Bolton, Omri Ceren and Manda Zand Ervin.
