Terrorism

About this Issue

Many nations throughout the Middle East are sponsors of Islamist terrorism, which is defined as the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political goals, in this case the promotion of radical Islam. There are a large variety of Islamist terrorists, many of whom are sponsored and supported by the Shia Islamist regime of Iran, or the Sunni Islamist regimes of Turkey or Qatar. All seek to destroy the U.S. and its allies in the Middle East, especially the Jewish state. EMET educates Congress on the dangers coming from Islamist terrorists originating in the Middle East.
