EMET Strongly Applauds White House Decision to Enforce Immigration Laws against Foreign Students Protesting for Hamas
The Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET) applauds the most recent decision, formalized by an executive order signed today (01.29) by President Donald J. Trump, to enforce America’s existing immigration laws against foreign students who’ve engaged in pro-Hamas activities and protests.
As an organization dedicated to promoting the U.S.-Israel relationship, as well as safety and security for American Jews, EMET has been at the forefront of advocacy for actions and legislation that combat antisemitism. Among these, EMET has been working hard through the first weeks of the 119th Congress to advance the Antisemitism Awareness Act through the legislative process and ensure that it is signed into law this year. We have been working on the Antisemitism Awareness Act for almost a decade now, and had been the first organization to introduce this to the US Congress.
EMET Founder and President, Sarah Stern says “Hamas is a foreign terrorist organization, (FTO), and has been designated as such by the U.S. Department of State since 1997. Just as we would not issue visas, student or otherwise, to foreigners who’re known to support this FTO, we should ensure that those who do so while residing in our nation know that they’re no longer welcome on U.S. soil and are subject to deportation. There has been an absolute tsunami of antisemitism, particularly on our university campuses. As so much of the incitement against Jewish students on our nation’s campuses has originated from foreign, outside provocateurs, this step goes a long way towards returning sanity and decency to our nation’s college campuses.”
EMET will continue to support all efforts to combat antisemitism, in a non-partisan manner and in line with America’s own goals and interests.
