Groups to Congress: No Taxpayer Funds for Biased, Politicized Middle East Studies

Higher Education Act Reform Title VI Must Include Accountability to Stop Misuse of Funds, Strengthen National Security
WASHINGTON and SAN FRANCISCO, Cal. – Sept. 17, 2014 – With Congress considering the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA) in several individual bills, leading organizations focused on education policy, the Jewish community, and civil rights announced today a coordinated effort to provide lawmakers with solutions to prevent misuse of federal funds under HEA Title VI.
Enacted by Congress as part of the 1965 HEA, Title VI provides federal funds to 129 international studies and foreign language centers at universities nationwide. Title VI has the mandate to strengthen U.S. security by training security specialists and educating the public. In the absence of congressional oversight, however, these programs have devolved into hotbeds of anti-American and anti-Israel activity, disseminating falsehoods both in universities and (through the congressionally mandated “public outreach” programs) to K-12 teachers and to the general public.

EMET States That the War in Gaza with Hamas Ended in a Clear and Decisive Military Victory for Israel

(August 7th, 2014, Washington, DC) – Today, the Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET), stated that Israel’s “Operation Protective Edge” was a clear and decisive military victory for the State of Israel. Obviously, Hamas terrorists would not have agreed to the cease-fire if they did not feel defeated.

EMET supports new U.S. Senate legislation to increase Iran Dome funding

(July 28, 2014, Washington, DC) – Today, The Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET) expressed its strong support for a “clean” bill to increase funding for the Iron Dome system.
EMET strongly supports the legislation to increase Iron Dome funding, sponsored by Sen. Mitch McConnell. Iron Dome is a mobile all-weather air defense system, jointly funded by Israel and the U.S., which is currently protecting Israel from Hamas missiles. The Iron Dome system has intercepted around 420 rockets during the current hostilities. Its effectiveness rate has been estimated at about 90% interception of the missiles aimed at populated areas. According to U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, “Iron Dome has saved countless Israeli lives.” This legislation would meet a supplemental funding request from the Pentagon for $225 million in additional funding for the Iron Dome system. The added $225 million would be used “to accelerate production of Iron Dome components in Israel to maintain adequate stockpiles,” Hagel has said. An agreement with Israel calls for more than half the funds the Pentagon provides for Iron Dome to be spent in the U.S.
